Dredge?
General forum

So lately I have been trying to decide what the next I am going to make is going to be, and after looking around for ideas i came across Dredge on youtube. All of the vids were of turn 2 wins, etc., but i couldn't find anything on how the deck really works. Can anyone explain to me how Dredge decks work, and give me some staples for the deck? Preferably extended, but legacy is fine too.
I googled it and found this. Seemed like it went into a lot of detail http://mtgsalvation.com/293-dredge-the-forgotten-standard.html

Probably the best part is how easy it is for everyone to do. =D

so you are not going to play for fun? one of my friends plays the dredge deck and the only thing we could come up with is Leyline of the Void and if it ever came into play in the beginning of the game he just gave up.

@Akillics
I was just generally wondering, because a couple of my friends have some decks where its like "Why should I even try?" (EX: removal based vamps and mono blue mill). So I'm trying to think of one for myself. But you're right, it is kinda game-killer, so I probably won't be making one.

Look at the frist deck. I played something similar for a long time. The deck is insane, and it completely solves and trouble with Leyline or other graveyard hate.

This deck looks crazy. But what is the point of running Outrider en-Kor ?

Its 0: ablility acts like another Shuko . That way if your opponent plays Chalice of the Void for 1, you can still win.

I'm proud to present the first deck on tappedout built around kiora, the crushing wave: Kiora's army of 9/9 krakens.
To celebrate the release of the first simic-colored plainswalker (and because I want to shamelessly steal your ideas on how to play it), I'm announcing my first challenge: Build a deck around Kiora, the Crashing Wave .
Rules:
- Kiora, the Crashing Wave has to be included in the way the deck works. You can't just take any simic-colored deck and add one copy without using it.
- Your deck may be standard, modern or legacy.
- You may include blue, green and if you like, one additional color. Hybrid symbols are allowed if they are partially of one of the chosen colors.
- Symbols from abilities' costs that are of a different color than the chosen colors don't disqualify a card, and if they are paid with an "any color" mana source, the abilities are allowed to be used.
- Your deck may not cost more than 250$, the average cost counts. Make sure you add in and mention the cost of cards that are missing in the TCGplayer calculation.
- You may submit only one deck and not alter it once it's submitted. Submit a copy of the original deck if you want to go on tweaking after your submission.
- The deck needs a clear description. If you have some pity for the judge, make it brief but exhaustive, and include an example of optimal performance as well as important interactions.
- Entries are accepted until the first of February, The evaluation process will take some time after that.
- I'm not participating in the competition. I've got to be neutral.
What's in for you?
- The top two entries in each format get a feature token and upvotes on their entry and on a deck of their choice.
- The ranks 3, 4 and 5 get upvotes on their entry and on two decks of their choice.
Judgement Day
Who's the Judge? You all are! Okay, actually it's me who makes the final judgement, but I'll let the score and the comments on the decks guide me a lot in that decision.
Have fun building!

Thank you for participating. You're showing quite a lot of courage to post the first entry. I'll keep that in mind.
The description should suffice. I might think differently about that after I looked at more decks and need to go into more detail to compare the decks, but that will be then. Please use comments if you want to add something so the "last update" timestamp won't get overwritten.

That's something I forgot: Please post your decks with the following syntax (without spaces):

Argh! I hate you hate you hate you! Being faster than me, how dare you! XD
Well, shit happens, I'm the second then. Wouldn't matter at all anyway... if I hadn't just claimed to be first, that makes me look a bit stupid. I thought I was the first because no other decks appeared on the card's page.

I'm sorry to say, but your deck is four-colored, and therefore doesn't meet the requirements of the challenge. On the bright side, since your post is not a legitimate entry, you still have the chance to post a deck that follows the rules as declared above. It shouldn't be too hard to get rid of one color.
Also, using kiora as alternate wincon is treacherous ground...

I will be offline the next few days, so I tried hard to think of everything that is important to be said before that.
An example for a reader-friendly description can be found here: And on the Eighth Day God Swung for Lethal. Don't bother about pictures though. Always consider that I might happen to have less experience with your type of deck, so I might miss something important, like his T2 7/7. (How sick is that?) I'm quite good, but still have a lot to learn. Advertise what makes your deck the best. Entries before this post will get away with whatever description they used. My own fault for not making myself clear...
The next paragraph should have been in the article, maybe KrazyCaley or someone can edit it in before "have fun building"? Thanks in advance.
Each deck will be evaluated by how inventive it is, by the way you integrate the abilities of Kiora and combine them with the cards and mechanics used in your deck. Competitiveness is also important, the deck has to be able to function properly in a game and have a moderate chance of winning. However, creative decks are my favorites, so guess what is more important...

I apologize for my lack of knowledge on the modern format, but I saw an awesome combo to ult Kiora when she comes out. Being the Johnny I am, I stuck with it, since I can only do it in modern.

Cool, another 5 entries! If that keeps up, I will have to start evaluation right away so I don't end up with 50 decks to review and people waiting for me...
@ PhilJol
I only looked at the card page. It was empty, so I figured mine was the very first. Turns out it was only the first that had the card in the decklist. Anyway, our decks are of different formats. ...and it's not that big of a deal either ;P

You didn't see mine because I had Unexpected Results holding the spot for Kiora (same mana cost, for the curve and whatnot). All good, just tried (and failed) to keep the glory!

Drfrozenfire, you should post your deck here by using thie following syntax, from the comment from Triforce-Finder above:
"That's something I forgot: Please post your decks with the following syntax (without spaces): [ [deck-large:deck-name] ]"
You can find your deck name by going to your deck and looking at the address bar. For example, my deck above is at "tappedout. net/mtg-decks/post-bng-turbofog/", so my deck link would be [ [deck-large:post-bng-turbofog] ], without the spaces.

dark water glitters idly in the evening sun, disturbed only by a slight breeze. Suddenly, a burst of bubbles breaks the calm surface, shortly followed by a kraken... No. That's just a typical nerd, wiping tentacle-like hair strains out of his water-wrinkled face. After he gave up on drying his glasses with his soaked black shirt, he looks at his watch, grins maniacally and says: "Heh, almost two weeks without excessive surfing... but I'm back..." Swirls of foam coil around him, drifting aside as he steadily wades towards the shore, his blazing eyes fixed on the jungle rising behind the beach... //rpg-mode off
Don't worry, I've seen that bug before and didn't ignore your deck. Figures that a deck including kiora can't be completely colorless. An almost colorless deck would still be allowed, though.
I've been thinking about that too. Lands are colorless, so they don't break the 3-color-limit. You could play maze's end.
However, a Maze's End deck using only three colors might not mobilize all of the archetype's potential. Or it could be even more effective because it's more streamlined and cohesive. In any case, you will have 7 taplands that aren't used properly. I was considering an exception for Maze's End, but it doesn't feel fair towards the participants who already built their decks with three colors and gave up on some good staples for it. Talking about poor foresight...

@ smash10101 and all who want to play Maze's End
Found a loophole that doesn't bend the rules too much: Hybrid symbols are allowed as long as they are all partially of the chosen colors anyway, so if it's for the sake of maze's end, I'll allow casting them with the foreign colored mana produced by the gates.

Please post your entry only if you're definitely finished with it. Once posted, there's no alteration allowed except for comments. If you want to go on tweaking, you have all of january for that. Posting early gives you no real advantage. The best deck wins, not the first one.
Just to be clear: Every posted deck counts as entry by default.
@ CW
Entrys are accepted until first of february, so if you want to use cards not spoiled yet, better wait until the very end of that deadline. If that deck is your entry, it can't be altered anymore. If it isn't, you're the first and last one to get away with premature posting.

Something incredible happened: I changed my mind! What a world-changing event! ;)
The next few weeks will probably be the most stressful of the year for me, so I can't do pre-deadline testing anyway. Because of that, but even more because the BNG set is too good to be excluded, there are two changes:
- The deadline is the 20th of february: after the BNG release, before the pro tour.
- Everybody may alter their decks to their hearts content.
- You may use every card that has been spoiled/released.
Have fun!
