Gift Decks for my Friends

Howdy all.

I have spent the day a brewing a pair of decks for a couple of friends as a Christmas present. One has been playing MTG on & off since Ice Age & is of intermediate skill level, just rusty. The other is pretty much new to MTG & has only played around with planeswalker decks as well as MTG Arena.

Both the decks are low budget builds, spending no more than £15 on each. I have also tried to tailor the decks for each person, focusing on their favourite main colour as well as introducing a different colour they wouldn't normally play & promoting a somewhat familiar, yet new kind of play style.

Enraged Rampage (Budget/Casual/Tribal) is the first deck which was created for the friend that is new to Magic. He usually plays Green & Black. I decided on Green & Red Dinosaur Tribal & Enrage effects for him.

Treason & Sacrifice (Budget/Casual/Synergy) is the second deck which was created for the more experienced friend. He usually plays Black with either White or sometimes Blue. I decided to make a Black & Red Synergy deck focusing on the Sacrifice mechanic.

Ultimately I wanted both the decks to by somewhat balanced & fair to play against each other. Also I hope its a good starting point for them to add & build upon should they choose to.

I would really appreciate some feedback, suggestions & ideas on what else I could have included. Let me know what you think. Would you be happy to receive one of these decks as a gift? Would you want to play it?

Many thanks :)

My advice isn't really for the decks or individual cards themselves (especially since I don't play standard) but rather how you approach playing versus them after you give them the gifts. When I originally started playing magic, a friend of mine gifted me an extremely budget build of old standard cards that were about a year or two out of rotation that was really bad, and then proceeded to only play t1 or t2 modern decks versus me. Needless to say I lost every single game and it was a terrible experience, because it felt like I could never win. Make sure when you do play games with them and theyre using those decks you also use budget lists :P

You could always just by the Game Night product! It's 5 mono-colored decks that are meant to be played against each other, great for casual play or new-ish players

(not a WOTC employee btw)

A few ideas to throw out there. I built two decks for one of my son's friends about a year back that were built to be about equal and also have some fun stuff from the newer sets. I did this so he could play against my son, me, or anyone else and just hand over the other deck also allowing him to switch between them. I then helped my son build a deck on the same power level so he could pull it out as well.

On the budget plan though I know it's too late you could have looked at some Pauper decks as they would have been on your budget and still worked with being good decks that don't rotate as well as they could grow them and find matches for those decks against other players.

Just some food for thought.

onto the decks. I like them and they look good. I would say as my only critique is the dino deck should run a few more Rare cards for a few reasons. He is new and Rare cards are the more flashy and fun; this gives him that. Also if he plans to play against your other friend this might get noticed and be an issue in power level of the two decks. Even if not noticed in game play it may still give the perception of such.

on there face value I don't think they are that far off each other in power level.
