Is there anything you have done, in regard to Magic, that you now look back on and think WHY THE HELL DID I EVER DO THAT?
An example would be playing with your Alpha Dual Lands on the playground, so they all became scuffed and dirty.

A few things:
Back in the really early years, the rule for MTG was that you could only have four or five rare cards in your deck. SO having something like a rare land seemed kind of silly. So we used to open out unlimited and beta packs, and if we saw our rare to be a land, we used to just hand them off or throw them out.
Fast forward to when the first ravnica block released, i remember pulling copy after copy of Dark Confidant. And getting pissed as to how useless it was. It was a worthless card at the time, but something kept tugging at me and telling me it was good. But i couldn't figure out why anyone would print that abomination. Fast forward to 2012, there I was spending 90 USD each on a playset of them. times have changed.

Just this past fall I sold basically my entire collection, minus a few decks and a box of rares, to get money together for traveling. I was supposed to be gone the until maybe april looping the states. To me a whole winter with no snow was worth it.
But we had car problems. Those problems ate up all my funds quickly. We ended up being gone for 3 weeks, and made it back before coldest part of the winter has even started.
So now I have less than half of what I had to work with for deck building amd trades. So many good singles I sold for way less than their value. All for 3 weeks of travel and no car or money now. Why the hell did I do that??
Also, I bought 4x original print Aether Vial for 45$ a pop, less than 24 hours before they were spoiled for iconic masters. The next day you could get an aether vial for $20. Why the hell did I do that?
I could go on and on, but these are the two most recent. Ive sold and re purchased modern jund/rock 3 times now. Why do I do this to myself?

I have several times traded in half my binder for store credit just to get a single card specific to a single commander deck, and ended up playing the deck for a week and then taking it apart and buying back the cards I traded in in the first place.
I haven't playing magic as long as most people have though, so no Beta Duals have met their untimely demise at my inexperienced hand (yet?).

Also, REALLY early on in my MTG years, I had the bright idea of ironing a foil Cyclonic Rift with a crease in it. Now I know that foil cards (from RTR at least) basically explode when you iron them.

Heh.
No ironing.
Check.
I'm more interested in stuff OTHER than bad trade decisions.

I played on the lunch room tables all the time in school. All my cards looked like they had freckles, So i gave them away... Even the fetches.
Live and learn, I guess.

When I first started building I didn't know about Gatherer.
The only information I had been given was that "Return to Ravniva" was in Standard. Stupid LGS employee didn't even bother to say "Return to Ravnica BLOCK".
Luckily I found out from somewhere that RTR, Gatewatch, and Dragon's Maze were all in, along with M14 and the Theros block.
Now, the Dragon's Maze symbol is not a very distinctive one. It looks a LOT like some of the older expansions.
I went through my collection by hand, trying to work out which cards were Standard legal. Took me forever, because I had to check each one against a list of symbols.
Eventually I was able to work it out.
When I found Gatherer I was so grateful for a simpler way of sorting through cards that were playable.

I would not call this a horror story, but when the first Mirrodin block was released, I obtained a Sword of Fire and Ice, a Sword of Light and Shadow, an Auriok Champion, and a foil Death Cloud, but I either traded them or sold them, because I was new to the game at that time and had no way to know how valuable they would become, so I wish that I had kept them, to sell them for a profit.
Another regret that I have is that I never bought a textless promo Lightning Bolt when its price was low, and now, it is worth far more than I am willing to pay for it. On the opposite side of that, I bought a Primeval Titan for nearly $40 when that card was first released, and it is now worthy barely a quarter of that price.
To continue that subject, I purchased a copy of the 2007 promo version of Vindicate for $25, and, at one point, it was worth $100, at which point I definitely should have sold it, because it is now worth only $35, which is still more than what I paid for it, thankfully.

In my early days, if I bought single cards from my local card shop, I would take them home and wash them with soap and water.
I think I thiught that they were made out of some sort of plastic. I didn't like that they were covered in sticky finger prints - an obvious sign that some people ate while playing with them.
I soon learnt that they weren't washable.
I still own some of the cards from that time, and one of them is a favourite. Mostly because it's one of the few cards I own that isn't in pristine condition.
