Mark Rosewater Again Comments on the Legendary Supertype

Here is the newest post about Mark Rosewater saying that he wishes that the legendary supertype was not a downside, but does he not understand that that supertype has a downside that allows legendary permanents to be more powerful than comparable non-legendary permanents? I would not presume to possess greater knowledge of this game than does one of its main designers, but the legendary supertype is a safety valve, and Rosewater likes to emphasize the importance of safety valves.
What does everyone else say about this? Do you agree with Rosewater's opinion of the legendary supertype, and why or why not? I certainly am interested to hear your thoughts, on this subject.
