So what is this new product, for us who dont want to watch an hour long video? And most important, will it come to iPad?

smackjack,
MTGO, but with a decent interface. Though way too many sound effects/animations IMO. And a limited card pool, for now.

Not sure on iOS (or Android), but I really hope that's part of the plan.

Here's a short article from MTGgoldfish and a longer one from the mothership.

If it doesn't have all the cards from sets that it includes it's not worth it for me. If they leave cards out they can get fucked.

I expect to be able to playtest my IRL standard decks on this and as such I expect all the cards to be available.

That was my biggest gripe with duels

Ohthenoises,
They'll have everything in Standard for sure, but it sounds like Eternal formats are only going to be on MTGO. At least for quite a while ...

Oh I meant as far as whenever they decide the start is. I don't really care if they add eternal formats.

The videos on this weren't clear about it containing all the cards but the article you payed was: "MTG Arena will feature the full card sets in Standard"

For example, in duels they were missing a bunch of cards like felidar cub (before it's banning) and a bunch of other good cards

Ohthenoises,
I didn't know that about Duels. Ugh!

So, since I already play MTGO, this seems like another digital product that I can just safely ignore. It doesn't offer anything that Magic Online doesn't already have, right?

Lame_Duck,
It's speculation of course, but imo ...

  • Short-term: No impact at all.
  • Mid-term: Depends on your format. I suspect a bunch of Limited and Standard MTGO players (and probably all the non-English speakers) will make the move to Arena. Any new Limited and Standard players, including a ton of folks from Hearthstone, will of course start there. All of that is going to make the Limited and Standard areas of MTGO a bit of a Ghost Town. The only chance to the Eternal formats is that with fewer drafters, the supply of cards (from both new sets and flash-back events) will go down and costs will go up.
  • Long-term: Assuming Arena is successful product, it will eventually expand to include all formats.
