For using the Mutate mechanic in your deck. It is a very innovative mechanic that would most likely be seen as jank based soley off of the lack of support the mechanic has. But the theme of having a creature change while on the field is pretty interesting. I also feel that this is a mechanic that if given enough support could be as powerful as ninjutsu.

It reminds me too much of banding. You combine multiple creatures into one far some slight advantages, and we all know how successful banding was.

Banding is a great ability, but one that suffered from Wizards overcosting it (it was in an era most creatures were over coated), not being printed on any cards where it’s unique attributes could shine, and being printed in an era before reminder text on keywords.
Mutate likewise has a number of good payoffs, and proves complex abilities can shine with the above three problems fixed.
Plus, both Banding or Mutate are easier to figure out than the purpose of this thread. This seems to be in the wrong place, but, with how little info it contains, not sure where you wanted it moved to. Care to elaborate tomaselguapo?

I like the mutate mechanic, but it's a linear mechanic. Not to mention WotC made it shard or wedge related, made some of the cards interactions too specific to work with, and made some of the decks extremely challenging to build. I liked the challenge of building a "potentially" functioning jeskai build, and there's some even more potential through ZNR, BUT the mechanic itself doesn't allow for room to grow or adapt, and with these short visits to different planes and whole sets of new mechanics, this will be shelved entirely in favor of something else. It would make sense that they are attempting to diversify standard, but sadly netdecking shuts all that down cold. There's no way around it.
Sorry for going into a tangent about it. Lol

I love the weird interaction mutate has with flicker and replacement style effects like Angelic Renewal. Basically, it splits the mutate creature into it's components.
I've also found it works really well with Stoneforge Mystic into Batterskull, as the germ token is a viable mutate target.

Sorry for the lack of info. This is my first thread and i couldn’t figure out if things should be wordy or not. This mechanic is really cool to me. I like the idea of having a vultron deck that is creature based as opposed to enchantment or equipment. Plus there is just enough odd rules interactions to keep the blue player in me satisfied. e.g. should a mutated creature be flickered it comes back into play as each separate creature.

Makes sense. I do think it’s a fun mechanic, but I’m not sure what you expect us to talk about.

EleshNornsFs: mutate is not at all like banding, and has way more advantages.
