New Extended

General forum

I read today that extended is changing from 7 years to 4 years, so that it only goes back to Time Spiral block. AND Sword of the Meek and Hypergenesis are banned. Anyone have any ideas on what the new decks to beat are going to be in extended?

honeymomo says... #2

Yeaaaah I hate it. It's basically Standard ver. 2... D: I don't like being limited.

New decks to beat: Jund... And Faeries will be back.

I agree honey

New decks to beat I have not idea and don't care much for the reasons listed above

Surely with a bigger card pool there could be some kind of crazy consistent weenie deck other than vampires? :)

SocialistElite says... #5

Faeries is the new deck to beat. Especially with Jace getting thrown in there... Yay.

Seriously. I just bought the cards for a new extended Kiki-Jiki deck when I found this out... Totally a day ruiner. I really think WOTC dropped the ball on this one.

honeymomo says... #7

Yeah my kiki-jiki had all the wind taken outta it's sails too. At least now I have an excuse to bust out faeries! At tournaments when Lorwyn was standard I got lots of funny looks because I was the only girl in the tourny and because I had such a girly deck hahaha. If I lose though I become a Bitterblossom (lame I know but I had to).

ugh faeries...

Has everybody forgotten about Scapeshift ?

June 22, 2010 10:43 p.m.

Faeries being girly? Faeries is the most devious, clever, frustrating, sinister, upsetting deck I have ever seen in my life. Oh wait...

Also, I appreciate the pun.

All I can think of is that my playset of foil Anathemancer s and foil Volcanic Fallout s will see play again. :D (yay for trying to think positively?)

June 22, 2010 10:48 p.m.

birdseed says... #11

@Akillics I never even knew how Scapeshift decks work. Can someone clear that up for me?

June 23, 2010 10:23 a.m.

You sac all your land using scapeshift to find valakuts and tons of mountains to intanly kill your opponent.

The reason why Im skeptical about Scapeshift working very well in the new extended because people will be ready for it. Scapeshift did well at extended tournies because everyone was focused on beating the "big 4" (Dark Depths, Hypergenisis, Thopter Foundry, and Dredge) and 2) it doesn't have a very good match up against faeries.

June 23, 2010 10:41 a.m.

Akillics says... #13

Oh I know, believe me I play both Fairies and Kithkin (Kithkin is twice as good as fairies though in my opinion) Scapeshift will have trouble with fairies for sure but I think that for the time being it will be the top deck.

June 23, 2010 10:45 a.m.

I think that Kithkin will actually win the first tournament. People aren't giving it enough attention. Plus people are talking about using the white hideaway land and Spectral Procession to power out Eldrazi on turn 4. That or 5cc. 5cc is definately going to be annoying.

June 23, 2010 12:10 p.m.

Akillics says... #15

Agreed

June 23, 2010 3:51 p.m.

cardcoin says... #16

Ok, am I missing something? How can Spectral Procession help to produce Eldrazi in turn 4???

June 23, 2010 7:06 p.m.

birdseed says... #17

3 disposable 1/1 fliers to attack with so the hideaway whatever can be activated, giving you an eldrazi

June 23, 2010 7:38 p.m.

cardcoin says... #18

Hmm, almost like a blue/white varient of Polymorph then using different card?

June 23, 2010 7:41 p.m.

More like a monowhite varient of Polymorph. What REALLY makes the deck scary is that it doesn't even have to get out an Eldrazi to win. The deck is really good on its own as an aggresive white weenie deck.

Akillics says... #20

Can you post a link so we can see it?

June 24, 2010 2:42 p.m.

I'll try and find one. Its mostly just rumors right now. Most people aren't going to be taking it too seriously until this winter when Extended PTQ Season starts up. But yeah. I'll look.

I just played against a New Extended Faeries deck with Jace in it. It was depressingly dominant.

June 29, 2010 12:34 a.m.

Ouch. What were you playing?

June 29, 2010 8:19 a.m.

I really think G/W knights can be a force to contend with. The new knight lord that grants indestructibility in 2011 comboing with all the best knights from Lorwyn, Wilt-Leaf Liege, and Knight of the Reliquary? Massive. I've been testing it around a bit and it's pretty demolishing aggro. Of course like everyone else I have no idea what to test it against... I tested some lorwyn-era 5CC and Faeries decks, and a cool exalted Bant variant with Doran the Siege Tower. Other than that though the format's wide open. Combo decks are almost not worth testing against because they do their thing and you do yours and race unless there's some counter to their combo.

Does anybody think mono-blue merfolk could work? I'm trying to work on a deck for this new format, mainly focusing on Lord of Atlantis + Spreading Seas , then just load up control-y type cards like the M11 Mana Leak and such. But I'm not sure if it could stand up against Faeries. Faeries are annoying >.<. Another is red elementals. Its like RDW but more creature based and slightly more annoying to play against. Thoughts?

June 29, 2010 11:02 p.m.

lol. Have you seen my elemental deck? Its obnoxious.

I think you would have a decent matchup against faeries actually. All your guys would be unblockable, so they're Bitterblossom wouldn't be all that great. And always remember, you can't counter manlands! Mutavault is going to be super useful in that matchup. Do you have a skeleton decklist yet?

June 29, 2010 11:08 p.m.

birdseed says... #28

@ SocialistElite

Yeah. Honestly, I was kind of referencing your elementals in that last sentance haha. I played around with it and made my own version, but I think I like the merfolk idea more. Here is my loose outline of what I want them to look like - Merfolk 2.0.

June 29, 2010 11:42 p.m.

birdseed says... #29

@ HammerAndSickled

No, knights do not look easy at all. The last thing I want is my creatures being Path to Exile d so my opponaent can swing with a (big number)/(big number) INDESTRUCTIBLE Knight of the Reliquary .

June 29, 2010 11:44 p.m.

Haha. Im honored. I really don't see it as being a big part of the meta right now, though. I haven't really heard anything about it other than on this site.

Knights is definately a legitimate deck. With indestructability, people won't be able to depend on a wrath to save their day. Its vicious.

June 29, 2010 11:58 p.m.

birdseed says... #31

Well I mean it seems like NOBODY has a clue what the new decks to beat are except like Faeries with Jace and the rumors of Eldrazi-run Kithkin weenies and Knight Exemplar -fronted knights. Of course, KrazyCaley's article pointed out a few others too. But I haven't read about any new decks ANYWHERE other than here.

This is the first dicussion I've heard about extended so far on wizards.

June 30, 2010 8:57 a.m.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/gw-knights-extended/ Here's my knights build. Kinda rough, but it is quite vicious. Paths are in the sideboard, only because without Dark Depths in the meta there is no MUST PATH targets out there. My swarm strategy works well against aggro decks and against decks with one beefy guy I can swing around. From what I've seen there are a lot of decks that have a huge focus on one color so Brave the Elements is basically unblockable for a turn.

KrazyCaley says... #34

@Socialist

I played it with both this heavily-proxied Jund deck I put together using some nasty older cards along with its staples, and a Jhoira-Eldrazi deck. Beat Jund 2-0 and beat Jhoira 2-1, with some bad luck on Jhoira's part, but still.

How do you save a deck?

February 22, 2014 8:32 p.m.

There's a button on the bottom of the deck editing/adding page that says "save." Click it.

February 22, 2014 8:34 p.m.

ChiefBell says... #38

Click on 'deck builder' in the top left, then 'add mtg deck'.

In the maindeck section type in cards like -

4x forest

4x plains

etc.

Give the deck a title and then press 'save'
