Anyone seen a deckbuild that looked like it fully utilized him in his $40 glory?

cardcoin says... #2

It's basically mana ramping to get the giant out on the 4th turn, then back that up with Destructive Force to wipe your oponents 5th land drop. Basically, it's a machine.

Mana ramp using Khalni Heart Expedition , Cultivate , Even Harrow , and some elf or bird to boost the mana drop/draw fire.

Some people are mana ramping the deck based on either having it in hand OR they will draw into it...

Personally I think the deck is crazy and the first pro event had 6 decks based on this creature in the top 8. (though apparently only 25 people attended I think!)

There are several varients of this type of deck, some running with red, others running blue (for search and Jace) whilst others are running White for splashing in the Sun Titan as well!

Though for pure green... Avenger of Zendikar is the real killer combo for this card. and come the turn after, when you have 8 lands in play, you attack with the Titan and boom, 2 lands brought in tapped... You do the maths :)

Maindeck:

Creatures 4x Avenger of Zendikar 4x Primeval Titan 4x Siege-Gang Commander

Enchantments 4x Khalni Heart Expedition

Instants 4x Harrow

Sorceries 4x Cultivate 4x Explore 4x Rampant Growth

Lands 6x Forest 12x Mountain 3x Evolving Wilds 3x Terramorphic Expanse 4x Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle

Sideboard:

3x Cunning Sparkmage 4x Oracle of Mul Daya 2x Summoning Trap 2x Chandra Nalaar 4x Forked Bolt

That was the winning deck. And THIS will explain why Primeval Titan shot up in price :)

I built titanic-obnoxiousness utilizing Primeval Titan and Ob Nixilis, the Fallen . Ultimately, I didn't think the deck lived up to the price tag and abandoned it. But I've seen plenty of others try the same thing. Someone may get it right.

I got a Nissa, Worldwaker from a pack and i have alot of people offering me 50 dollars worth of cards and I am wondering if I should take it. any thoughts? I don't really need the card and I doubt I will pull a second one so I guess I am just curious if she will spike, I read some forum posts saying she will drop but I am not 100% any thoughts?

maiden77 says... #6

she will drop, definitely, swap her for $50 for sure

Servo_Token says... #7

Yep, take it.

She's currently in the honeymoon phase, and she'll be falling out of it relatively soon. Get as much out of her as you can.

ok thanks I really appreciate it!! :)

It has been my experience that splashy rares, and especially mythic rares are incredibly high around the time of their release and slowly fall as supply catches up to demand. I would get rid of her as soon as possible if you are looking to get the most value out of her. I would suggest also not trading it for anything from M15 as the entire set should slowly fall in price over the next month.

Depends one what cards you are offered. If they are decent I would take it. What offers have you had so far?

July 21, 2014 6:41 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #11

Gidgetimer I think you are wrong. In some cases I see some droping, but overall most of the cards seem undervalued. I think everyone is being caution because of the last few sets. I think there are a number of cards that will be rising from here.

July 21, 2014 6:42 p.m.

Gidgetimer says... #12

I forgot about Chord of Calling and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth those 2 may rise, everything else is inflated due to release hype imo. Of course everyone has their own opinion, and they are entitled to it but that is the way I feel.

Didgeridooda says... #13

Gidgetimer there are so many 1-2 dollar rares that I see going up, and a couple others. I have not looked through the mythics yet, but they are usually the inflated ones.

The rares in this set just seem dirt cheap to me.

Again you are entitled to your opinion, but I don't see it.

hahaha, overcautious? Yet Nissa is at $50 because people think she'll be great ramp. Green ramps plenty enough as it is the last thing they need is a 5 mana ramp spell.

I traded mine off because there is very small chance of her staying at $50, even if she ends up seeing tons of play. I think it was after pro tour Journey into Nyx (i think that was block constructed) the pros were all raving about Elspeth and Courser of Kruphix calling them the best two cards in standard. Neither of which is sitting at or near $50. Granted there is more supply at the moment of those cards than Nissa but I think that just adds to the argument that as more and more M15 gets opened the more her price will drop. If there are cards you need and you can find people willing to trade you them for Nissa, then I say go for it. Or if you can just get a ton of value cards like Shocks, Abrupt Decay , and other things like that then go ahead and trade it. I picked up an elspeth that I needed, I also was able to get a Blood Crypt and an Elvish Piper I needed for an EDH deck I have. For me that was a no-brainer decision, 3 needs for a card that has a hyped up price right now.

Also, I would cash in on the guys Using SCG prices while you can before they realize there are 42 stores most with multiple copies for under $35 each.

Cards priced extremely high at release are far more likely to fall than climb

Didgeridooda says... #18

Gidgetimer are you not a big fan of M15?

July 21, 2014 10:09 p.m.

abenz419 says... #19

point being, that regardless of which you use you have a much better chance of losing value if you hold on to her right now than you do of her gaining value lol

oops, edit: that's in reference to Gidgetimer's post

July 21, 2014 10:57 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #21

I am just curious how you guys view this set. It seems to be a better set then this last block. The prices seemed more inflated for it then here.

July 21, 2014 10:59 p.m.

Gidgetimer says... #22

I'm not a fan of cards that are inflated just for standard and the huge price spikes because of people speculating and hype. Nissa, Worldwaker is ok, but she is not $50 card, hell even SCG doesn't have her there any more. She has lost 20% of her value in the last 3 1/2 hours, and so people saying that she would fall have already been proven right. Every set that I have followed prices on has had all prices fall in the first month on new cards. The prices are always the highest the market will bear and once game stores start seeing a decline in sales they will mark it down until they reach a sort of equilibrium where the number they can sell equals the influx from buying singles.

July 21, 2014 11:03 p.m.

Didgeridooda says... #23

Gidgetimer I agree with you about her. I think she is much less then that, she is/was at insane level. I think she is a 15-20 dollar max thing. I was wondering about the rest of the set though. I felt that this set was not as hyped as much as the last few. I was wondering if you felt this set in particular is the same as the past. I don't see too many cards I feel are inflated outside of the walkers.

July 21, 2014 11:51 p.m.

Gidgetimer says... #24

The 'Walkers, Waste Not , The Chain Veil , and Soul of New Phyrexia I feel are all over double where they should be. The rest of the set I guess is fine and won't "plummet" but I still feel that getting multi-format playables or standard cards with established value would be better than trading the one new shiny mythic for other new shiny mythics.

July 22, 2014 12:13 a.m.

Didgeridooda says... #25

Waste Not is the other one I feel is too high. I don't know about soul of NPH. I really like that card, and he seems like he should be 5-10 or so. Foil prices are insane to me, the % that some are compared to non foil. The hype really bothers me as well. The fact that any decent card practically doubled in price recently makes me question what is going on.

I appreciate this in-depth look at economics with magic cards. I am very ignorant to card values and how/if a card will rise and or fall in value. I have decided I will trade the card and I appreciate everyones input!

What about Garruk, Apex Predator ? You see it dropping soon?

July 22, 2014 10:49 a.m.

Gidgetimer says... #28

From his scg price? Yeah, since again TCGPlayer has 60 sellers, most with multiple copies for under $25 with shipping. That price I see coming down a bit more to 18-20 with shipping as the hype dies.

Nissa's drawbacks as I see them.1. Nissa does not have the utility to be a $50 card. 2. Making your land a 4/4 creature is ok until you start losing land to creature removal.3. Untaping 4 land would be great but untapping 4 forest is going to restrict the usefulness. This ability also requires you have something to use the mana on. The 4. The ultimate is restricting you to basic land which is another limiting factor

I don't see people needing 4 each per deck that she is in making her probably a $10-$15 walker once the dust settles.

As for Garruk, I don't think he is anywhere near as good as Karn Liberated and he is more difficult to cast. I wouldn't be surprise to see Garruk at around $5-$8. Garruk may have been playable if all of his non ultimate abilities were +1. I would rather have Garruk, Primal Hunter .
