As per the new rules stated here, you cannot use Mindslaver like effects to search your opponents sideboard anymore. This is due to the discussion surrounding this interaction with the new Emrakul, however, this still applies.

That's unfortunate. I'm not sure that I fully grasp the reasoning. Anyone want to elaborate?

ducttapedeckbox As said in the post, they made it so that there wouldn't be any issues with time and unnecessary(?) interactions between players. I would guess that they have been having trouble with these sorts of things in tournaments, because there isn't any other sensible reason for the change. Note that this also affects wishes (Glittering Wish, etc.). To me this is the most confusing reason for the change, because even before the new cards were made this issue had the potential to come up in tournaments. However, this still applies.

Finally. It's about time. This was a very unfair strategy in my opinion.

ducttapedeckbox I think they are afraid that Newmrakul will be played so much that looking at players SBs will cause significant issues. Not only that, but the information gained may be reason enough to jam Newmrakul into every deck possible. Knowledge is power.

Basically, if you link at your opponents sideboard you can tell what they will sideboard to deal with you. Then you know what they're doing, and they have to guess about you

I'm glad I can still arbitrarily make people find a place to play magic during FNM meets

Does that Store Locator interaction really work? If so, that's hilarious.

I feel like this should be featured/pinned/whatever for a few days, as it will be a relatively important change.

Sooooo you can't use your opponent's wish cards anymore either? You just cast it and search for nothing?

VampireArmy That may be one way to get around the new clause.

I would be interested to see what happens during this sequence.

Activate Mindslaver or cast Newmrakul, take control of opponent.

Cast Glittering Wish or Coax from Blind Eternities.

With the new rules, am I no longer allowed to look at the SB? Common sense says that upon casting Glittering Wish you would indeed RTFC and do what it says. I think the new rule addresses more of the, "I activate mindslaver, pass turn, oh and I'm just gonna look through your Sideboard right now...don't mind me. Just probing around."

Yeah, I guess Newmrakul has the possibility to cause problems. I don't understand the concern with time, is it really much worse than T1 Thoughtseize and writing down your opponent's hand? The difference between writing down ~7 unique cards versus ~10 isn't more than a few seconds.

The knowledge concern is more justified to me. Prior to this, very few decks had the possibility of looking around an opponent's sideboard (ok, maybe just UTron?). If you're going to devote your game plan to Mindslaver, the ability to see your opponent's sideboard is justified. It's a little hazy now that the turn control is open to pretty much any deck.

No. You can't wish either.

Bottom line: Your opponent's sideboard is off limits. Entirely. They've put down the rules to make it accessible by your opponent.

This is exactly because of the new Emmy and new Eldrazi Wish card.

TMBRLZ So the original post was deleted on reddit and I can't find anything else on it. I'm not 100% sure they are accurate. I'll be waiting for an official Wizards article.
