First SCG Open: Advice Needed
General forum

I plan on attending my first SCG Open and playing Pioneer in five days time, and I wanted to see if anyone had some words of wisdom for me. I am confident but nervous to be playing in my hometown. Are there any tips or tricks to keeping oneself focused through nine rounds?

I would have a goal to concentrate on, not neccesarily a certain number of wins/losses but somthing to work towards that you can make progress on across multiple rounds? IDK, make sure you have fun!

Minimize stress.
Have your deck list done prior to arriving; your nerves can get to you and you may forget a card and receive a game loss. Doing it before hand prevents this.
Make sure to have the following
Pen, paper, extra sleeves and dice going up to the vendors is typically a cluster of chaos having these ready before the event is a great way to reduce stress.
Shower and brush your teeth before the event. Deodorant is your friend. I know these seem like common sense but to some not so much.
Eat a good breakfast.
Have fun. Some people might get super salty but just stay positive and call a judge if you need to; especially if you dont understand an interaction.

You’re all fantastic. Thank you for the advice you’ve given me so far. I’m running Izzet Phoenix for this event, I’d be happy to keep those that are interested updated in my progress.

Wow! A berryjon cameo! I just need to get my mind ready for Saturday. I’ll panic a lot before then, but the day of, I’ll have a poker face like the best of them.

The best poker face is not an expressionless face, but rather one where you're having fun. Because it's easier to have degrees and variance in fun, whereas stoicism is harder to keep consistent.
Why no, I haven't had experience with this, why do you ask? ;)

Get plenty of sleep the night before. Eat well before you go and bring a snack or get food there
