True Immortality aka the Ultimate Pillowfort

To start off, sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I'm new here.

For a while I've been wondering if there was a "true" undefeatable board state. For me, that means that you start the game with whatever you want in play, with no cards in your hand, graveyard, deck, or exile. Your opponent starts out with a deck with no restrictions and has to try to win the game. Also, you are not allowed to interact with anything in the game (such as activating a scepter). Ideally, you opponent would be able to play things as well (e.g. no combos that prevent players from having hands, playing lands, etc.)

Currently, I have a setup that I think will work, and I want to see if there are any cards that I have overlooked. Here is what I currently have:

Platinum Angel - fairly obvious, prevents decking/lethal damage

Mycosynth Lattice - necessary for many upcoming cards

Darksteel Forge - all your stuff is indestructible

Indomitable Archangel - all your stuff has shroud

Leyline of Sanctity - this prevents stuff like Mindslaver

Tajuru Preserver - prevents stuff like annihilator

Damping Matrix - prevents stuff like Words of Wind (among others) This replaced Null Rod so that you can still get mana

Narset Transcendent's Final Ability - prevents all sorts of nasty stuff, including Cyclonic Rift and Humility

Torpor Orb - for Noxious Ghoul

Blazing Archon - for Bane of Bala Ged

Rest in Peace - for Havoc Demon and False Prophet

Melira, Sylvok Outcast - for Harbinger of Night

Stabilizer - for Decree of Pain

AEther Storm - for Bane of the Living, Ixidron, Crovax, Ascendant Hero or Ascendant Evincar, Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Magus of the Tabernacle, Kataki, War's Wage, Avatar of Slaughter + Kaijin of the Vanishing Touch etc.

I'd love to replace one of either AEther Storm or Narset Transcendent because having both means that opponents are unable to cast any sort of spell, which I feel goes against the spirit of the impenetrable pillow fort.

Please let me know if you have anything that you think can get through this. Thanks :D

Null Rod does not prevent the effects of Words of Wind.

Stasis + Frozen AEther

Add Forsaken City to keep Stasis alive, or Chronatog to skip all your turns ;)

A few thoughts:

  1. If you are starting out with a board state and allowed to attack, I don't know that there is much your opponent can do against an Emrakul, the Aeons Torn. Why not start with just her? Game's over in two turns and every attack she'll blow up their entire board.

  2. With the board you've lain out, does Narset Transcendent start at her ultimate already? If she doesn't, then she doesn't do much for the first few turns and there are several options that would break you:

  3. Someone can bounce your entire board to your hand with Hurkyl's Recall. Mycosynth Lattice has made everything an artifact, so...

  4. Consulate Crackdown or Merciless Eviction can exile your whole field (there are other exile choices like. Final Judgment, Descend upon the Sinful etc can exile all your creatures.
  5. Black Sun's Zenith can mass reduce toughness of your creatures

Even if you're already starting with a Narset Transcendent emblem from her ultimate, there are still some options:

There is a neat decklist I found that goes into detail about the ultimate pillowfort:

We've had this discussion before, I can't remember all the details that we came up with but we found that Mirror Gallery + Iona, Shield of Emeriax5 naming each color and then something to prevent colorless/artifact spells from being cast is pretty much a total lockdown.

Alternatively adding Living Plane + Linvala, Keeper of Silence also works for the second part.

Boza Why not? Words of Wind is an artifact due to Mycosynth Lattice and it is an activated ability, correct? It's possible I misunderstand something here though.

Yeah, my bad, forgot about Laticce.

Anyways, the questions is how can this be done easier? I am thinking a Narset Transcendent emblem and a AEther Storm couple with Angel of Jubilation will take care of all spells being cast. Then all that is left is taking of lands and activate abilities from the hand. Stabilizer takes care of most detrimental effects from hand and a Blood Moon to take of non-basic lands.

Begin play with all of the above in play and the opponent would probably not be able to do anything.

saj0219 yes, the idea is you start with narset's emblem on the board, you don't even need narset to still be alive. Kalemne's Captain doesn't work due to Null Rod. Aethersquall Ancient is also an activated ability. False Prophet is blocked by Rest in Peace since death is defined as moving from the battlefield to the graveyard.

Boza Yes that would probably work but I do want to let the opponent have stuff to do (basically so they can try in desperation to try to defeat you) and there are several combos that make it such that players don't have a hand, such as Maralen of the Mornsong, Stranglehold and Teferi's Puzzle Box.

The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale seems like it would work, given that you can't generate any mana I can see.

smackjack I'd like to avoid a mana lock if possible, and your setup also requires the player to do something (which I'd like to avoid)

shaistyone everything on my board is indestructible due to Darksteel Forge

shaistyone says... #16

Ahh, it is destroy. Sorry didn't see that.

Actually, you can probably pare this down a lot, as Mycosynth Lattice + Null Rod prevents almost all mana generation anyway..

Could anything get around Dovescape + Reverence + Humility? That seems like a lock to me.

wavesport001 Boseiju, Who Shelters All or Elvish Spirit Guide + Simian Spirit Guide into Wreak Havoc, also there's nothing to prevent you from decking yourself.

you're going to have to put in AEther Storm otherwise you're still leaving yourself wide open.

Kataki, War's Wage by itself will blow you out of the water.

something like Avatar of Slaughter and Kaijin of the Vanishing Touch or other variants.

aholder7 good point, that's rather unfortunate that you have to block creature spells AND non-creature spells (unless you used a ton of Meddling Mages but screw that)

January 30, 2017 8:41 p.m.

aholder7 says... #23

well you can try that but they said they wanted to start with their cards out then not interact after that. theres no way to get the number of meddling mages you need with those conditions.
