For an EDH deck you want a general who has two or three colors generally (no pun intended). That being said I would go with Garza Zol, Plague Queen so you have the versatility of the deck being more that mono-black.
Remember you can have other legends in an EDH deck even though they are not your general, so you could still put in all the combo's WiseHeart65 mentioned, but you'll also be able to put in much more control (not that you'd be particularly happy putting control in it since you'll be playing against it xD) with the U/R added colors to it.

I know your asking about generals, but there really is only so many choices when it comes to vamps. Hands down, Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief is best for a mana heavy insane destroying general, killing tons of things, and gaining so much power buff. Captivating Vampire , Kalastria Highborn , are just a few other vampires that weren't mentioned that need to be in the deck.
Don't forget about black changeling creatures, they are vampires too.

Should be noted that a kicked Blood Tribute with Sanguine Bond out is an instant win.

Anowon, the Ruin Sage makes for a mean mono-black EDH.

My friend and I have been discussing the viability of Pack Rat in a Reactive Control deck gasp for the Modern Format.
I know there is not really such a thing right now, but when I see cards like Tasigur, the Golden Fang and Snapcaster Mage so well positioned to take advantage of cards in your graveyard I can't help but wonder if a card like Pack Rat can play a useful role in helping a player sit on three mana. Twin does it to flash in an Exarch, so it must not be too risky.
The problem I foresee is that it does too little for the resource investment. You're spending five mana over two turns to make what...a / token? But just like in Standard when it seemed to be the backbone of MBD, it's an expendable 2 drop that can win you the game if left alone.
Now there are lots of ways to deal with a 1/1 that hits the board on turn 2 and doesn't really have an effect until turn 3...so what do you guys think?

I don't know if I like it. Discarding cards seems pretty bad, even if it is to put dudes out.

Keep in mind that the token is a copy, so its more than a 1/1.

That's what I was wondering. Is the lost Inquisition of Kozilek, Remand or whatever necessarily a bad thing if you're getting something in return.

I know people playing 8rack like it as a discard outlet so that they keep ensnaring bridge live. And if you play Dark Confidant you can keep the card advantage. The issue is that there is enough relevant removal in the meta that Pack Rat doesn't seem to be impactful enough in my opinion. Maybe it just needs to find the right shell

I tried to comment before bit i disappeared.
I've seen some people put rat in mardu with a pile of discard spells. It's not great on curve but gets much better as the game goes on. Just pitch your dead cards to it and watch it grow. Helps if you run stuff like mutavault too

It could very be a bad thing. Why play Pack Rat and lose cards when you could play something like Keranos, God of Storms and gain cards? You don't even have to use Keranos; you could use things like Wurmcoil Engine, or Batterskull, or manlands, or any annoying to remove wincon. I feel like Pack Rat is better suited for midrange decks to slap down lategame and ride to victory.
If you are going to play Pack Rat, however, it wouldn't be terrible. Cast it late when you have control of the game with mana to protect/activate it, and it could work well. I still prefer other wincons over it, though.

It's not a good card for reactive control decks. You need every card in your hand sometimes to stabilize, and Rat doesn't really do anything in the early game or if you topdeck it with no other cards.

problem with pack rat in modern is Lightning Bolt. Unless you plan on running other rats, pack rat is within bolt range for at least 4 turns. So if pack rat is your only win con, you can't drop him until late game.
That being said, he DOES see modern play. BG rock decks (occasionally) run him. But discarding for value? Maybe Lingering Souls?

That's the sort of thing you should post in the Deck Help forum on its own thread. Let people know what the main idea is, what problems you're having, etc.

Not in a reactive control deck. Pack Rat is good in mardu or something similar, like alongside Young Pyromancer and Dark Confidant as your other creatures, but in control you don't want it for the same reason you don't want Liliana of the Veil, you need every card.

I guess what it amounts to is there is a premium on cards when you're playing control and the token isn't good value.

What is with special lady friends and Black? My wife only got into magic because I built her a demon deck based around Xathrid Demon .
That being said, I like Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet , or Garza Zol, Plague Queen .
