So, I know lots of people here by their usernames and their crazy-awesome Magic brains, but I know so little about who you folks are out there in the frightening real world. Thought I'd start a thread to learn a bit about each other. Kickoff:
Caley is actually my real name, and I am indeed male, lest the name confuse you. I am a 26 year-old rookie lawyer practicing in an independent partnership with a law school buddy (she also plays Magic, but I think the most recent card she owns is the original printing of Seasinger ). I also teach fencing, martial arts, and chess for supplementary income on occasion. I also perform regular, non-MTG magic, sail laser sailboats, play the piano, try to learn to play (badly) the guitar and theremin, and umpire baseball games, among a pretty preposterous variety of other stuff. Good times!
Hiya. I'm still new, so I don't know how many people recognize me, but I do recognize you guys, so here I am to make myself known!
My name is Dorian. I am male, in case anyone has met the rare female Dorian. I'm 18 years old, still pretty fresh out of high school. I should be going to college right now, but I had a lot of trouble with my financial aid that didn't get handled in time, so I will be taking care of that and beginning school in the spring. I will be majoring in English and my hope is to be able to write for a living. I want to be able to write stories, but I will take whatever writing opportunities present themselves, possibly excluding journalism, which I don't care for. For now, my life is a little crazy. I'm living with my girlfriend and my other friend near where my girlfriend is going to college. I'm still struggling to find work, as I have no previous work experience to speak of and it is making the job hunt very difficult.
As for recreation, I am a full on nerd. I read and write, screw around on the internet, and play a ton of games. Magic has been my big obsession for a while now. My friends and I played casually using whatever cards we could get, mostly old decks taken from my dad. Then, just after Zendikar came out, we took a day trip to the big gaming center in the area and bought boxes of random common/uncommon cards for cheap to begin actually being able to build decks ourselves. While there, I went in on a box of Zendikar with a friend. Not long after, we started attending our local game shop for FNM and occasionally drafting. I've gone nearly every week since then.
So yeah, not much special, but that's me!

Alright folks, my name is Justin. I'm 19 and I am currently a freshman in college persueing a major in Electrical Engineering, however I'm almost a sophmore as I came into college with 9 credit hours from AP Physics and AP Calculus BC. I'm a freak in that I LOVE Calculus and Physics, I'm not sure why, I just do. I was in marching/concert band in highschool playing trumbone and baritone. Outside of that I play drums with my own drumset and I was in a band but we parted due to college. Music is a big part of my life, I prefer heavy metal, with singing and some screaming (ie. Bullet for my Valentine, Story of the Year, Avenged Sevenfold, My Chemical Romance, ect.) However I do enjoy some J-Rock and some Euro-Symphonic metal.
My girlfriend of almost 2 years is 2 and a half hours away because she's still in highschool. I'm a complete nerd except I do have somewhat of a social life, I'm the token nerd in many different groups of friends and then I have my group of nerd friends. I'm a computer gamer, but I am on the console for RPG's like Fallout. My gamertag is Zylo 003 if anyone wants to add me.
Now to Magic, I started with Lorwyn and that combined with Morningtide, Shadowmoor and Eventide are my favorite sets because they are very generous to tribal decks which are my favorite to make. I play legacy/vintage with my friends. I get angry when someone who only plays standard tries to give me advice on my legacy/vintage decks and they don't know what they're talking about. I must say my most embarassing moment was during my very first draft of Lorwyn. On my first pack it had either Garruk or Elspeth (I can't remember) and I passed it because I didn't know what it was. In my defense I had asked my friend what planeswalkers were before we drafted (they had just come out) and he wouldn't tell me for some reason, he didn't even say if they were good, so I didn't know to keep the Garruk or Elspeth.
Well there's me in a nut-shell!

Greetings. My name is Michael, I am a 20 year old male about the join the Navy to be a chef. I would of gone to school, but I currently have no parents to speak of and money is tight, so the military was the only answer.
I've traveled by myself to Alaska (lived there a year) Canada, and a few other non-important places. I love to travel and hope to do more of it while in the Navy.
About Magic, I really only started playing this year, and I was unfortunately one of those people who just play standard and got into a debate with Zylo about U/B, which I still feel bad about. I have been trying to make a EDH deck with Sisters of Stone Death and hoping to one day get more involved in magic.
October 4, 2010 8:59 p.m.
It's all good ballard302! I may have been a little harsh myself during that debate and I apologize for that. We both learned a little something about the other side so it was productive to say the least. :)

My Name is Nick. I play Tuba for the High School Marching Band. If you know what a 20-J is take pity on me, they are heavy. I just started Magic a year ago, but I have learned enough to play well and I've taught some lower class men. I take some college classes at KSU as well. I like to play Standard and my goal is to be the best Mill Deck out there. I am also about to become an Eagle Scout. Applying to colleges this year and I plan on being a pediatric anesthesiologist.

My name is Brandon, a highschool student obsessed with art hoping to get a job in future doing digital painting/airbrushing or manga and in fact, I've got a link if you wish to see my art.
http://cryokid.deviantart.com/
Referring to MtG, I started playing this year in fact and have started to become an avid collector. Got drawn into playing by the art, storyline strength and two persistent friends.

Alright, well, my name is Steve. I'm twenty-four years old. My wife and I have been married for a little over a year and have been together for almost six years. This past spring, we adopted a puppy named Radar that has become our spoiled child.
I was an undergrad at Northern Illinois University, where I got my Bachelor of Science in Sociology. I was originally planning on being a sociology high school teacher, but in my last semester (during student teaching), I decided that teaching wasn't for me. I just didn't agree with the way the school systems were working and felt that my personality was too laid back to control a room of teenagers. Changing career paths was the most difficult, yet most freeing decision that I've ever made.
Now, I'm a wedding dj. I'm not sure yet if it's what I want to do for the rest of my life, but for now, I'm loving every minute of it. Music is a huge passion of mine, so it made sense to find a career relating to music. I also get the benefit of working with clients on one of the happiest days of their lives.
Video games are another thing that makes me happy. I'm a big fan of Nintendo. I own an NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, Game Cube, Wii, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advanced, and Nintendo DS. Though, I also own a PS2. The Legend of Zelda is my favorite video game series. However, I tend to like any game that has some kind of depth to it.
If I had to pick my current top five favorite tv shows, they would be Flight of the Conchords, Glee, Lost, South Park, and Survivor.
In my opinion, my personality has two distinct sides. One half loves structure and logic. Because of that half, I'm a big fan of consistency, grammar, lists, rules, and symmetry. The other half is much more loose. This side loves being weird, dancing, drinking games, partying, and randomness.
I could probably keep going, but I'm going to stop myself there. That's probably more than you ever wanted to know about me anyways. :)
October 5, 2010 3:51 a.m.
O.k then, My name Is John-Paul, but only my mother calls me that. My friends just call me John.
I'm 29 years old, live on the outskirts of London, England, and I've had more jobs than I care to remember, although i've been at my current job for almost 4 years now. I'm a support worker at my local college, and It's great because I get a crap-load of time off every year. This suits me fine, because i'm a very lazy guy. Plus, I get to see my son over the holidays, which is cool.
I love travelling to different places, although the last few years have been tight - I've only had two large trips since 2006, one to Las Vegas ($$$$), and one to Sydney, Australia.
I got married when I was 24, but separated not too long afterwards. I had to fight through the British legal system for the right to see my child, which panned out okay in the end.
I've always had a geek streak, and love computer games. My friend introduced me to Magic in February 2009 - Although he taught me with a milling deck. I blame him for my obsessiveness with alternative win conditions.
I play legacy legal in my playgroup, and i'm forever trying to build the perfect deck! Not that i've had much luck with that!
On a side-note, my username here is actually meant to be Vorxis, not Vortxis]]. I have no idea where the 't' came from, but I was too lazy to change it!

hi, I'm the youngest of three, and I'm following the example of my older two siblings by taking a year off between High school and university/college to help on the family farm. I live In Canada, south of the 49. I play guitar, and hope that I can continue to in, some way or another, professionally.
I enjoy playing Magic like I enjoy playing hockey: just for fun, with my friends, and with a little body contact. I started playing around 7th edition. My uncle taught me and my brother to play, and we've introduced many of our friends to magic in order to have more people to play with (everyone we teach loves it).
I like old cards better (and I don't mean alpha or beta old) because I just like the abilities/keywords of sets like Odyssey, tempest, and onslaught more than most newer sets. Snake offering?, Ninjutsu?, Epic? They just don't resonate with me

Oh hi, I'll throw myself out there for something to do.
I'm Paul, I'm 25 and live in the Northeast US. I have a degree in art and was doing 3D/animation/ and design for a few years, but jobs fell through and became non-existant. I'm going back to school in January to be an RN since the medical field has been another interest (surgery videos are awesome).
I play videos games, manga, anime and what have you. I like watching animated films and breaking them down to spite people who tell me it's all for kids (I am an animator first I guess). I have a dry and morbid sense of humor, it does well for me.
I played MTG through middle school, but friends moved and I had no one to play with and no way to get around to a store that had events, so I stopped. I got interested again when a pal told me about his outings to FNM and I started full on again by going to the ROE prerelease. The community around me isn't too big so it's nice to see community sites like this.

Guess I should finally chime in. I am the trade maniac...nice to meet you. My name is Ryan Eastman. I am 31 years old and live and work In Norwalk Ohio. I work at Hillside Wood Heat. We sell solid fuel heating appliances, wood, coal, pellet, corn stoves for home heating. Just me and my stepdad run the business and I hope to take the riegns one day. If anyone cares my stores website is www.hillsidewoodheat.com. I love my job and I do it well. I am the vice president and technical support. I am also responsible for advertising and the web page. Pretty good salesman too lol. Our store has been in business for 33 years and with 107 displays we have one of the largest showrooms in Ohio. I love video games and magic and my six year old son Xaviar Isias. I am proud to say my son played his rookie year of t-ball this year...he got three at bats in each of nine games, they did underhand pitch for the last three games and xaviar who I call Exxeyye...batted 1.000 his rookie year !!! He went peRfect 27 for 27. Fathers pride. Autographed rookie cards available for any planeswalker lmao. ;) never know he may be a star one day lol.
For magic...I started in alpha. I had a huge collection. Got to 50,000 cards or more. In college...around ice age I think lol...they were stolen. :( like every last card. Was pretty sure I'd never play again. One day I found duels on xbox and poof. Just like that I'm broke cuz of magic again lol. Back to five digits card quantity and hungry to trade.
I love my binder more than my decks...and love trading almost as much as playing. Silly to y'all probly but what can I say? I look forward to trading with you all. Hit me up...my thirst for the trade is never quenched.

Ok, I'm Stephen, and I'm an alc... just kidding. :)
On a more serious side though, my name is actually Stephen, I do drink occasionally, but I'm often working 12 hour shifts doing nothing more than technical support. I have a lass who I've been with for 7 1/2 years at the time of typing. I'm also not that old (at least in my head I'm not!). At 31 I am starting to feel like a bit of an old hand at most things (doesn't mean I'm always experienced though, just old...).
Outside of work and Magic, I tend to spend time with the GF, and even though she isn't a fan of the card game, it's better than me getting lost in some random pub. (did I mention that I'm NOT an alchoholic?)
In case you might still be wondering, yes, I'm another bloke, guy, male, person...
All of the above.
I'm a tech head at heart, and love playing with new shiny tech toys. (KAKAW!), born and raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland. which means I get to claim that I'm both Irish and British... which often leads to a lot of confusion. But honestly, I am human. and lead a reletively normal life. Dispite what may be made out otherwise... Here was never as bad as it was portrayed in the news.
If anyone is ever crazy enough to come over to Belfast, Northern Ireland though, be sure to PM me so that ya's at least know where ya's can go to play Magic whilst your here :). Seriously though, the Magic community here is rather cool, and whilst we are not the most elite in the world, it's still a solid group of folk who will be always happy to see fresh faces and show the ropes.
Sorry if this seems to reveal nothing much, but if there is anything folk wanna know, then the profile page is available to drop comments etc etc.

Hrm. Greetings everyone. My name is Richard, although I've been using samhein as a handle since acoustic coupled modems and text BBSs. Picked up my first starter decks of MtG from the bargain bin at a local hobby store because they were marked down to $2 and the guy at the counter said it was fun enough, but would never last.
I've got a Masters in Computer Science, a minor in Mathematics (toying with the idea of Piling it Higher and Deeper), 2 cats, a wonderful wife named Stephanie that I've been with nearing 17 years now, and a tendency towards irritability.
You have squire1 to blame for me being active here, him being one of my best friends and sparring partner (we argue about nearly everything).

Good to meet all of you. My RL name is Jonny and I'm 27, Montanan (USA) living with my (hot, but non-gamer) English wife in Somerset(UK) near Bristol. I studied Music Composition at Uni (I play loads of instruments quite well, guitar being my love), but my profession has changed over the years from IT/networking to computer graphics/design. I'm a lifelong gamer, wargame weekly as a member of the Mid-Somerset Wargamers club, GM a weekly D&D Dark Sun campaign online through Fantasy Grounds, and game on my PC for at least a few hours each day when I'm not practicing music or painting miniatures. Basically, I barely sleep (no time! heh).
I play MtG online/casual these days, and prefer to use OCTGN... it's easier to pretend that money is no object and I own multiples of every card ever made ;). Oh, I've definitely paid Wizards their due over the years. I started playing MtG in 1993 as a poor 10 year old on a miniscule allowance. I played/spent quite heavily from about 1997 to 2003... old enough to have a job and young enough to blow my money without consequence. Then I stopped, sold my cards, and am just picking the game up again nearly 8 years on.
Hope to catch some of you online through OCTGN!
I'd really appreciate some good instruction and patient re-intro matches to get back up to scratch, so pm me if you're willing.
Cheers ~Jonny

I think I'll introduce myself, considering how much I use this site: My name is David, and I'm a freshman Computer Science student at the University of Texas at Austin. I played magic a little bit back in elementary school (I suppose), but I didn't get really into the game until after my senior year of high school when a group of my friends also got really into it. I've continued playing at college now (joined the university's club), and I'm still struggling to build an at least semi-competitive UG Beastmaster Ascension deck. You see, I've come to the belief that I have a nearly equal amount of all three Timmy, Johnny, and Spike. I attribute the fact that my colors are blue and green to this belief: I like green for its ability to provide epic games and blue for its capability to combo off. I'm constantly play-testing my deck to try and see how competitive it is, and I love this site for how it helps me do that (thanks deleteme).

How about some good old Texas people? Specifically Athens, Texas but anywhere will do. Its hard to find people in the area to play unless you go 30 miles away in Tyler. It gets expensive you know.
By the way my name is Jerimiah and I have been around Magic since the beginning. I stopped for awhile and have just now got back in to it competitively since the release of M11. So I got a lot to get caught up on since the Urza block. Yeah, I know long time! I have been in all the pre-releases and Launch parties since being back, and I got to tell ya I like where Magic has gone. I was surprised to finish in the top 8 in all those events, but hey I guess Magic never leaves you. Anyway, I love the site and I'm glad to be back. Hope to see you soon in a Grand Prix or Qualifier soon!

So, anyone know if a lot of people in the Navy play magic?
October 18, 2010 11:21 a.m.
I just signed up to the website today and thought I'd share a little bit about myself. My name is Graig, I am 33 years old, married with 3 boys under the age of 7. I have been playing Magic since 1993, competitively since about 2003. I started playing competitively on MTGO and just recently started playing paper magic. I occassionally write articles for puremtgo which is a website associated with on the of the largest suppliers of cards on MTGO. I was browsing the interest for more magic sites to fuel my addiction and stumbled upon this one. Other hobbies of mine include sports activities, mostly football and basketball. I am in the business field and spend way to many hours managing a pest control business in Indiana.
Hopefully I learn more information from this website and use the information to strenghten my FNM's and stuff.
See you guys around!
October 20, 2010 4:27 p.m.
Why hello guys, my name is Ian, I'm 21 years old and I live in Kelowna, BC Canada. I work for EB Games as an Assistant Manager and currently live with my gf. I always work friday nights so I don't hit FNM at all but if/when I get my own store then I will make damn sure I have time.
I've been playing magic for around 2 months now and it is slowly taking over my life haha, gives me something to do when i'm bored of video games or what not. I love being creative writting wise and other stuff so Magic drew me to that.
If anyone has questions feel free to ask!

My master's degree was in in K-8 mathematics education which I did teach for 3 years in 6-8 grade. I am now a statistical analyst for the school system. I play MTG occasionally online, mostly legacy and draft every now and then. The rest of my time is spent with my family (wife and daughter), or in classes pursuing my Ph.D.
