Why Was there No Reference to Edgar Allen Poe on Nevermore?

I think that it is a major flavor fail that the card Nevermore does not contain any references to Edgar Allen Poe, especially when one considers that the plane of Innistrad is inspired by Gothic horror, and Poe was one of the most prominent writers in that genre. I understand that WotC could not directly quote him, as they are now avoiding using quotes from actual media in this game, but could they not at least have depicted a raven in the artwork, or made a similar reference?

What does everyone else say about this? Why was there no reference to Edgar Allen Poe in Nevermore ?

That actually would have been really cool. I own that card, kind of want to get it altered now just for flavor. :p Unfortunately i primarily play commander and it doesn't really fit in any of my decks, so i probably won't. Even the abilities of the card feel Poe-esque

I think you're looking at it entirely the wrong way. The fact that a card called "Nevermore" was printed in the first place is the reference to Edgar Allan Poe.

ClockworkSwordfish, that makes sense, and is a good way to feel better about the card.
