Does anyone here play/even know about this format called "Quantum Leap magic" QL magic for short
Rules: You can only play with the old bordered cards
What do you think?
That's sounds really cool. Especially given the bad balance in power between both sets and card types.

Assuming you had the Legacy banlist, this sounds like fun.

Ugh, I just read the Rules page and I'm having second thoughts about my earlier recommendation. I get a strong feeling they're letting nostalgia take precedence over common sense.
I understand wanting to play like the old days, but there's so much we've learned about the game and the rules since then that shouldn't simply be thrown out. Stapling on the "tapped artifacts shut off" rule really blew my mind. One of the biggest problems the 6th Edition rules were intended to fix was the long list of single-card rulings that neither agreed with each other nor the actual rules of the game, and this artifact rule was one of the major causes for such rulings. I'm glad they chose to take the best and cleanest version of the old rules as a basis, but why add unnecessary baggage that's just going to muck it all up?

Yes, mana burn was still part of the rules in 6th Edition so it's a part of this format. See here for a summary of the high points.

I still have all my decks from back when I started. I wonder if these would all be legal in it. Also posted so I can go back, and look through the rules later.

Well, you said "hey here's this format and what do you think about it?" A format includes rules, so that's part of what I considered for my responses. Yes, I agree with you 100% that it's a much better idea to play with present day rules.

I agree. Still wanted to check them out when I am in the mood to read rules stuff.

I haven't tried QL, but I've been to their page several times. I have built a couple of 93/94 decks. It's really fun to bust out the old tech.

Hi folks!
Thank you for your interest!
We start to play QL Magic in 2011, and we have a ton of fun with this format. The guideline we have in mind, even when we take our decisions concerning the banned/restricted cards, is to promote a way of playing based on a balanced, fair game.
Yeah, 6th ed. rules are very interesting and awesome! Damage goes on the stack! This allowed players to do various tricks.
@Rhadamanthus what about "tapped artifacts shut off" rule... We made a choice... and we think "shutting off" the artifact is so intriguing! Sixth Edition rules changed the artifact rule, nothing new... we have already fix those incoherences, there were very few cards indeed! Having artifacts shut off when tapped led to some very interesting strategies. We love Icy Manipulator and we think that to tap an oppo's artifact may by a possible strategy, or strange combo with yours artifacts.Cards like Kismet or Root Maze are interesting too....I would like to link to you this interesting article if you are interesting on this topic: http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/bb15

Yeah, but I used to just call it "playing Magic" =P
It could be an interesting experience for someone who only started playing within the past 5 years or so. Creatures were much weaker on average than non-creature spells, it was noticeably harder to play "enemy" color combinations than "friendly" ones, and the vast differences in design philosophy between then and now leaves a lot of things feeling kind of...wonky. I recommend trying it out.
