[Brewing Time] - Naya Hypergenesis aka HyperSneak
Legacy Deck Help forum

Hello fellow brewers and legacy fans,
I come to you with another of my crazy ideas. (I sound like I'm a known person lol)
Anyway, here's what I thought about: I really like the card Hypergenesis. It's usually played in a G/U deck with counterspells for protection. Since I'm a cheapass I can't really afford the blue duals right now, that's why I want o play Hypergenesis in a Naya Shell.
Reason for Naya being Nahiri, the Harbringer and Sneak Attack. The deck would effectively morph into a more mid-rangey version.
I do realize that it would make the deck more fragile, yet i would like to try it. I guess the shell would be the same as in the g/u version: Emrakul and what not, with Violent Outburst as the cascade spell.
Any ideas on which cards could support the naya version even more? And how could I help with the "I can't play anything under 3drops" situation?

BBE could make me cascade into a Simian Spirit Guide and such. I don't think he would be of much use.

Well, you'll need to run Simian Spirit Guide and Elvish Spirit Guide, both, and use Violent Outburst as a cascade spell, but by being in Naya, you're locking yourself out from Shardless Agent and/or Demonic Dread, which are the commonly run cascaders on top of Outburst. You don't have blue for Ardent Plea, either.
I've played this deck back in 2014 and I had to run 8 cascaders since Mystical Tutor would lead to, "Heads up, counter this" and then I couldn't run Mystical anymore come 2015 so I wound up taking it apart (I hit a point where I ran 8 cascade 2 Tutor just to ensure I found it each game. I realize I could have done Personal Tutor, but sorcery speed was not acceptable. If they didn't have an answer in-hand, I wanted to go off my next turn by tutoring at their end step). So, definitely don't do 4 cascade- you really do need 8 unless you want to go all-in on Sneak.
Sneak and Hypergen are two separate decks, though. Mono red Sneak isn't terrible, and would probably be better, as far as disruption is concerned (can natively run Blood Moon maindeck to buy some much-needed time), than a Hypergenesis/Sneak deck. Nahiri takes 3 turns after dropping, so I don't exactly think it is the most suitable for Legacy use when you could all-in on a Sneak for 5 mana and send an Emrakul at someone right then.
Anyway, after looking, the Hypergenesis list I last used was a blue one, so it's of no help to you. However, I can offer a list for mono red Sneak that a friend of mine runs and I can attest to its viability against, "Fair" Legacy decks due to its acceleration:

There are also RB versions that run Thoughtseize, Goryo's Vengeance (sometimes), Cabal Therapy and the like to speed it up or protect against counter spells like Force of Will. It is a high variance deck, since you can't really tutor in mono red (there's Gamble, but Legacy is not Commander), but if you get an average starting hand, a good number of non-control decks will have problems with you (I have played Painter and been on the receiving end of t1 Ancient Tomb, Simian Spirit Guide, Seething Song, Through the Breach > Griselbrand, which is no fun at all since he just drew 14~ cards and ensured a hit next turn- through a counter spell, nonetheless (countered a Breach to windmill slamming a Sneak with exactly 1 mana leftover).
So... yeah. Hypergenesis is good in metas where Sneak Attack, Show and Tell, etc., are completely absent (well, and Tin Fins, too, since it likes to drop Griselbrand). Hypergenesis against several Legacy combo decks is practically giving them a free win, since they can run their own acceleration and you can't have cards less than 3 mana. Sneak is slightly higher variance in a red version, has a similar gameplan, but doesn't have those deckbuilding restrictions or difficulties against specific, common decks in the format.
I don't really recommend Naya for Hypergenesis, if you couldn't tell by my massive rambling. Anyway, I hope you do find something that works for you, whether it be this idea or another deck. Best of luck.
