Help me update my Reanimator list

Legacy Deck Help forum

Haven't gotten to play legacy since the top banning, had some questions before I update my RBx Reanimator list (current decklist at the bottom)

1. Is there a consensus on the best splash? Currently I'm on white primarily for Wear/Tear as I think it's the safest splash for an unknown metagame, but I know that people have had success with the green and blue splashes as well.

2. Is Sire of Insanity still good enough? I know it used to be a staple, but I've seen a lot of recent lists that don't have it anywhere in the 75.

3. Chancellor is always a mainboard card right? I believe it is, but I have seen a couple lists that either don't play it at all or just have it in the board. Both seem wrong, but I'd be willing to try it if it if you guys have some positive feedback about it.

4. Any glaring omissions in my list? Like I said, I haven't played it in a while, but I don't think my list is that far off, it's mostly just the sideboard that I'm actually concerned about.

I'm no legacy expert, but I just started playing Reanimator after top ban and I'll do my best to answer your questions!

  1. Blue looks like the best splash right now because Show and Tell effects are so strong in the sideboard and current meta. Second most popular looks to be green (and that's what I run). Wear / Tear just isn't needed as much, plus Reverent Silence is faster and Abrupt Decay more versatile currently.

  2. Sire is mostly out of favor in the MB. I see a lot of lists swapping it for the Iona in the SB; I'm testing Elesh Norn. I think this reasoning is two-fold: the Sultai/4c Delver and midrange lists are fast and have good topdecks, while being able to pressure down a 6/4; and the best control deck is PROBABLY D&T, which folds to Iona faster than a Sire. Without the soft-lock Miracles could put in place, Griselbrand is more likely to win you control matchups anyway, assuming you can chain into another Reanimate like Chancellor. Elves and Burn are also more prevalent post-Miracles, making Iona or Elesh Norn more effective. In short, there are more creature-based decks running around that can win around a Griselbrand or put you too low too fast to draw cards.

  3. As far as I can tell, Chancellor is still a 4-of. If you saw a list without her, it's probably the grindy U/B version, but even then I'd be surprised. Any list that wants to go fast still values her highly. The prevalence of Daze and FoW in fast tempo lists like Delver makes her even better, IMO.

  4. Looks about right to me, unless you decide to go the other color splashes and take out Wear/Tear. Some people are testing Archetype of Endurance in the side vs. Swords to Plowshares lists, but no idea if it's correct.

EDIT: Oh, Grave Titan is much better now because GY hate is everywhere. Being able to hardcast him with Rituals is sometimes a necessary gameplan, plus he's good against Karakas, Swords to Plowshares, etc.

Here's my list: NEED 4 T1 GRISELBRAND
