Help with Vampire Hexmage combo deck

So, I made a vampire hexmage combo deck Vampire Hexmage // Dark Depths // Combo and played with it for a few games. It worked ok but Deathrite Shaman and Wasteland pretty much shut it down completely. After that, I decided to start over and try making a new and better one. This is what I came up with (without putting in any land yet) Vampire Hexmage // Dark Depths // Combo 2 (keep in mind that Dark Depths count as land cards but do not provide mana, so I have to fit enough mana producing cards in there too) I think it's pretty straight forward. The only problem is that there is no protection while I'm setting up for the combo (as there aren't many creatures) I thought about adding white and throwing in some Lingering Souls but didn't find a good way to fit it in without throwing off the deck. I need help letting this deck flourish to its full potential. Thoughts?
UPDATEThis is the new deck. Still not there. Further help? Hexmage Revamp 2 - Red Dead Attemption

I'd recommend playing Vesuva because if you go t1 Dark Depths t2 Vesuva copy dark depths, the copy has no counter, hello marit lage! Or you can also do t1 urborg, t2 dark depths tap both for Vampire Hexmage, hello marit lage. Then pretty much just play kill spells and hand disruption for the rest of the deck...

HavokBane, that combo doesn't work, please learn the interactions before you go on on one.
Now the Depth combo is a pretty known entity and there are a ton of varients going around, depending. There is pure BG rush the combo with Crop Rotation, Elvish Spirit Guide, with Not of This World to protect Marit. etc (example here http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=13145&d=276965&f=LE)
There are the slightly more midrangey ones, which can play a BG midrange game kinda and just threaten a 20/20 for value. (example here http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=13140&d=276932&f=LE)
You can go blue as well for cards like Brainstorm and Force of Will but those are less common. Example list here http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=11962&d=268495&f=LE
You also have the Jund Entomb Depths, which runs an Entomb and Land toolbox, and plays like a less land focused version of lands (more hand stripping and stuff) Good little primer here http://www.starcitygames.com/article/27680_Leaving-A-Legacy-Jund-Depths.html
Junk Depths plays like a more land focused Mavrick, where you can try and beat down with a big KoTR or use him to fetch up depths/stage. List found here https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/262175#online
Or you can play the upgraded version, 4 colour loam, which gives you access to the fantastic Punishing Fire and a list is here http://mtgtop8.com/event?e=13310&d=278140&f=LE
Hope that helps

LeaPlath it would be courteous of you to explain why Vesuva doesn't work instead of just refuting what Havok said
If you want more mana then you can try Tolaria West. It acts as a tutor for Depths and can double as mana if you need it to be

The Redpil. This is a very basic interaction. The sort of thing that happens with literally every clone effect. It is why copying Primordial Hydra wastes a card and Kalonian Hydra is quite useful

Can we talk more about the subject of this thread?

Thespian's Stage gives you the effect you are looking for with Vesuva. I was doing this as an alt wincon in post for a while. It works because Thespian's Stage copies after its already on the battlefield, so the etb to put the counters on it doesn't fire.
As to the OP's original topic - what's the goal of your deck? Do you want to be competitive with it or just have fun?

scrotality I play a lot of casual games but want to break that cycle and begin making real decks for competitive games. I want to make this deck most effective for actual competitive play.

I have a mono-black Vampire tribal that does pretty well casually. The Hexmage/Dark Depths combo is really just icing. I don't know that I'd build a deck specifically around the Hexmage Depths combo, though. There are a lot of answers for it, the most annoying being Pacifism. It sure is sweet when Marit makes an appearance second turn, but ragequits make for short games.
