Lands wincons
Legacy Deck Help forum

Hey guys,
So sometime in the future, I want to put together a legacy Lands control deck, but I really hate the Grove of the Burnwillows + Punishing Fire deal. I'm also not a fan of Dark Depths in general.
So i'm just wondering, since i'd like to avoid both of the major win conditions of the traditional build, what are some cards I can use to get there? It doesn't particularly matter how fast they are as long as they die eventually. Also, is it just wrong to not play DD? I haven't been playing long enough to know what some land-interactive cards from back in the day are.
Thanks!

I'm not entirely sure why I don't like depths. I think i'll just run the one of and see how it does. Turbo is too much for me. And punishing fire is just so boring. like, I get it, you want to grind em out, but I don't like the punishing fire route of doing that. I think i'll put in one Molten Vortex and see what happens. It's essentially the same effect in one card, twice as fast.

well then it depends on if youre playing Life from the Loam the reason dark depths is good is because its recurring what if you play life from the loam (which you would need for molten vortex) and you mill your enchantment...oops

Dude, do you even know me? of course i'm playing Life from the Loam. :P
It's the whole reason I want to build the deck, because it's a staple in the archetype and I appreciate that.
If I mill over the vortex, oh well, i'll either win via DD or putting Mox Diamonds back on top of my deck with Academy Ruins.

Grove of the Burnwillows Punishing Fire is the most consistent and efficient win con eternal garden has while playing the taxing control strategy with cards such as Glacial Chasm and Maze of Ith to slow an opponent down while Wasteland, and Rishadan Port keep your opponent tapped down to destroy opposing creatures with The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. Meanwhile Dark Depth combo can present an efficient threat that must be answered in 1-2 turns depending on the deck to quickly end a match if your not worried about the opponent comboing off.
In relation to alternatives you could try playing the controlling game with something like Helix Pinnacle as your win con however that would be relatively high risk and far less efficient overall. 1 more option you could try would be a large scale burn or mill if you hold out long enough with something like Banefire, or Blue Sun's Zenith however that would be better suited to something like high tide and inefficient for eternal gardens as you tend not to have enough mana to spare if you play the control route of the deck and just end up in a slow grindy recurring burn strategy with punishing fire due to the cheap cost working around the mana and resourses being spent to lock your opponent down.

The Dirtiest of Lands is the deck as I have it right now. Flame Jab does essentially the same thing as the punishing fire combo, and by going that route over PF I have the ability to fetch up a bayou or basic more frequently than I would with 4 groves.
The list is a bit janky, but I just put it together like an hour ago. Thanks for the actual response, as well.

If you really like Life from the Loam and just certain controlling lands in the legacy format I would recommend possibly taking a look at playing legacy pox as its reasonably similar to modern loam pox however it usually remains only a golgari colored deck occasionally splashing into a third color in certain brews. It still utilises Life from the Loam though as well as some nice utility lands such as Mishra's Factory, Wasteland, Cabal Pit, Bojuka Bog and The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale along with large amounts of hand disruption and a small recurring creature base with cards such as Nether Spirit, Bloodghast, Vengeful Pharaoh, etc. depending on the deck variation.

Yeah, Lands needs those wincons. Your Flame Jab, while actually an admittedly cool idea, gets shut down worse than the Grove-Fire combo or Dark Depths. I mean, you could play like Mishra's Factory and like Mutavault. But the other cards, like Maze of Ith or Glacial Chasm are kinda nombos with it. I say you may as well not even play lands. I mean, Seismic Assault and Molten Vortex are kinda cool. You could do something like that.

In legacy I wouldn't even touch Molten Vortex over Seismic Assault. Assault is just better in the long run.

I am not an expert on lands either but I mean those are the wincons for a reason they are good and some of the few things a deck of all lands can do lol why dont you like them?
