I have some ideas about little improvements to classical Delver

BUG Delver

I'd like to know your thougts about those cards. Here are mine ideas:

Sinister Concoction

Sinister Concoction

Merits:

  • super cheap, instant kill

  • kills everything (including Emrakul), much more flexible than Disfigure, Dismember etc.

  • feeds Tarmogoyf + 1-3

  • even countered still feeds Tarmogoyf +1 by it's enchantment type (which this decks lacks)

Flaws:

  • non-instant cast speed, so no "surprise" here

  • discard as part of the ability cost

Ana Sanctuary

Ana Sanctuary

Merits:

Flaws:

  • no ETB effect

  • conditional

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy

Merits:

Flaws:

  • still weaker than Jace, the Mind Sculptor

  • not a win-con and a serious threat itself

  • no offensive usability, which means decreasing attack power or control potential by putting him in a slot of something with higher value and probably as a one of

I'm looking forward to any opinions ;)

Sinister Concoction doesn't kill emrakul, did you mean a different creature?

No, I meant exactly Emrakul. He is protected from colored spells, not from abilities of colored permanents, like Sinister Concoction.

Excuse me, SHE, not he, the Emrakul ;)

oh wow, that's a little janky considering what protection does cover. I wouldn't have guessed that would actually worked but then again it appears I'm wrong.

Sinister concoction is bad. It's card disadvantage, which is, to say the least, bad in a tempo deck. If you want to kill big things in BUG, play Vendetta, Snuff Out, or edicts. If you're REALLY scared of emrakul, just play your discard and counters well and she can't land off cheats. Even moreso, you're a tapout deck. You don't particularly WANT to have mana up on your opponent's turn, that's why your counters are usually free.

Ana Sanctuary is um... Interesting? It doesn't support the game plan of disruption, nor support that by drawing you cards, so what does it actually offer? Why not play tombstalker? Or angler?

Little Jace is actually very good. But the typical Team America configuration is simply better served by Dark Confidant. If you want to play a jace deck, there are quite a few of them out there.

Good points, NotSoLuckyLydia, here are the answers:

That's what the Dark Confidant is for. Moreover, imagine an instant that says:

"As aditional cost to play this card, discard a card from your hand.

Destroy target creature".

I guess that would be something worth considering, especially when it comes in synergy with Tarmogoyf and Deathrite Shaman.

Even moreso, you're a tapout deck. You don't particularly WANT to have mana up on your opponent's turn, that's why your counters are usually free.

Fair, but not completely true. With all mana fixing, ability of Deathrite Shaman and free counterspells you mentioned that's quite common to have open mana at mine disposal. If it weren't, there would be no point of running things like Brainstorm, Disfigure or, mentioned by yourself, Vendetta and Yawgmoth's Edict.

Ana Sanctuary is um... Interesting? It doesn't support the game plan of disruption, nor support that by drawing you cards, so what does it actually offer?

I suggest you read the card again, as well as my explanation of it's use in this type of deck.

Why not play Tombstalker? Or Gurmag Angler?

Dark Confidant that's way

Little Jace is actually very good. But the typical Team America configuration is simply better served by Dark Confidant.

Yep, that was my first (and even second) thought, but I'm still considering him.

If you want to play a jace deck, there are quite a few of them out there.

Haven't seen one in competitive legacy so far. But even if there are such, I'm not interested in Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  Flip as such. Even if I would use him in BUG, that would also be a one-two of at best, so supportive role is all I could be interested in and that is all about what I'm thinking when discussing his optional value for the deck.
