POLL: Which is the better card?

Legacy Deck Help forum

I'm debating which of these 2 cards is ultimately better for my Primordial Massacre Elves (prototype) deck.

Blightsoil Druid

or...

Gnarlroot Trapper

Both cost 1 life for 'G' mana. Is the casting cost of 1 less mana worth only being able to use the mana to cast other elves?

Please use TappedOut's syntax for linking cards rather than using links to third party sites.

Blightsoil Druid

Gnarlroot Trapper

Also, note that you need to use the deck's slug in order to link it. The name alone may not work.

See the formatting guide linked at the bottom of the page for help.

Not even going to look at the deck. The fact that one costs 1 mana and the other costs 2 is enough to make up my mind.

I understand what you're saying, zandl, but the 1 casting cost card is very limiting in how it produces it's own mana, whereas the 2 casting cost card allows me to use the mana for anything.

Is the lower casting cost with limited ability ultimately more useful than the 2 casting cost card.

I'm not overlooking the "Deathtouch" ability, but being able to use the mana Blightsoil Druid produces towards anything I want to cast is making me lean slightly in that direction....

You have exactly 4 spells in your mainboard that can't be cast with Gnarlroot Trapper, and it's a card you won't be casting until turn-3 or turn-4 anyways.

9 spells, actually... but that's a good point and you might be right! I may just be letting myself get too hung up on those other spells....

4 mainboard, 5 sideboard. You'd never be playing all 9 at the same time, anyway.

MAINBOARD:

2x Massacre Wurm

2x Primordial Hydra

4x Go for the Throat

1x Elvish Promenade

= 9 spells

But in all seriousness, I think you're right. The greater benefit to my deck may be in the Gnarlroot Trapper...

Gnarlroot Trapper being 1 less mana is very significant. On top of being one less mana, you also have some combat tricks for Plan C in those weird games where you enter uncharted territory.

Gnarlroot Trapper

Having a lower P/T is not an issue when you can give something deathtouch

I am voting Gnarlroot Trapper for the casting cost and the deathtouch

definitely Gnarlroot Trapper. faster with combat tricks is an easy choice.

Gnarlroot Trapper, although if mana is the only concern then maybe Urborg Elf would work as well...
