The Blood in Death & Taxes
Legacy Deck Help forum

Ive been playing legacy since I started playing 4 years ago. I recently started going to legacy events and im playing death & taxes. I love the deck, its fun to play and i have not done worse than 2-2 so far.
Naturally im thinking about how can I make D&T better?. There is one card that really intrigues me, Imperial Recruiter. Now, it sucks that the card is 3 month rent, but its really good. Im considering selling most of my collection to buy Imperial Recruiters. Is the card worth it? Im talking selling staples like a playset Force of Will and a playset Tundra to afford them. Am i stupid? Is the card so expensive because of its rarity rather than its power level, and selling actually good cards to buy these is a bad move?

No. I know a few people who strictly play DnT, neither has ever had games really improved with splashes. The mono white shell is just so good at doing what the deck needs and there aren't any cards that fit well enough into it from other colors to warrant the addition of fetches/duals, or dilution your creature base.

If you splash a color you'll have to play nonbasics. One of the main draws of D&T is how resilient it is to Wasteland and Stifle, that's partly why the Delver matchup is so good.

I believe its price is so high because of it's rarity, Demonic Tutor arguably does it better but that's not 350$. I'm not sure it's worth selling your entire collection for.

First off, wait until the summertime to get in on imperial recruiter. If there is an eternal masters, it's pretty much bound to be in there. If it/there isn't, the price will be largely the same so buying in won't really hurt more than if you did now.
Also, D&T doesn't need the support. Aether vial is usually enough to get the deck online, you don't need to waste a turn finding a corner piece to make one or two matchups a little bit more favorable.

Imperial Recruiter is card advantage while Demonic Tutor and Aether vial are not. However, I still think it's not a good idea since it will make the Delver matchup much worse

ThisIsBullshit: Demonic Tutor would be 3X the price of Recruiter if you were allowed to play it in Legacy.
DevoidMage: Eternal Masters? This is not the first time ive heard this rumor, is there any meat to those bones?
EndStepTop Yeah, thats what im thinking too. But when you have the deck completed you need to make it better. Magic is a drug and im chasing the dragon ;).

.... also, ThisIsBullshit, 350 is not that accurate. I can buy it for 150 euro, so about $200.

Because you have less cards to pick apart their terrible mana-base. You also have less creatures to gum up their spells and make them far less efficient. Adding a wasteland-able source that does as little for those MUs also can lead you into weird hands that could lose you an otherwise perfectly fine game. Imperial Recruiter makes your deck more mana hungry, when you want your manabase to : Cast cards you can't Vial in; or keeping your opponent off mana. Further the card would require you to cut other cards (both the land base to accommodate it, and for Recruiter itself) and for the life of me I can't think of any cards that are actually not-good-enough to be swapped for Recruiter.

smackjack sorry, missed the part where you're getting the promos.
I second what a lot of other people are saying - it's not worth the splash just for 4 (overpriced, in my opinion) cards.

If you don't get a vial against Delver they can keep you off of mana.
Ex.
Turn 1 Island, delver. You play plateau into aether vial. They force it.
Turn 2 delver flips, wasteland your plateau. You try to play Arid Mesa into mother of runes. They stifle your fetch.
You've basically lost that game already

Now imagine you didn't have a red splash and replace the two lands with plains. They have 2 cards in their hand that are practically useless. Yes stifle can target vial and Wasteland can get a Rishadan Port, but you'd be at an advantage since they're not executing their plan of mana denial

smackjack, The only time recruiter is good (from other people I've talked to on the Subreddit) is when you pair it with Magus of the Moon maindeck to give tutorable mana hosing that usually doesn't effect you.

Also, is there other directions to take to try more powerful builds of D&T?
