What Should I Turn Death and Taxes into That Has Brainstorm?

Currently, I play mono white Death and Taxes but I can't seem to get it to work out right. I feel like I have a lot of answers and locks, but never seem to be able to draw them at the correct time. It seems like if I had brainstorms I could fix a lot of issues. I own all the cards for mono white Death and Taxes, but the only legacy notables outside of it that I own are some Khans fetches, a bayou and a couple of Deathrite Shamans. My question is should I use the cards I already own and proxy a Stone Blade variant or try something completely different like Storm or Infect? I wouldn't want the entire cost of the deck to go over $2500.

Well, what types of decks do you enjoy playing? Storm is definitely a fun deck, I would personally suggest that, but it really depends on your play style.

I tried Storm before, but I continually seem to be slightly afraid to combo off early and wound up shooting myself in the foot.

In all honesty, storm is not your type of deck if you are going to be hesitant. What do you like to play then? Creature based, Control, Delver?

I'd say probably creature based and control. I've played delver in modern but the random gods hate me and I wind up flipping delver on like turn 4.

Infect is also a deck that requires you to "go for it" quite often with little to no back up. It has a lot of back up but you can't always depend on having it. There are also some Junk lists that play some of the death and taxes cards, and the Bayou.Like GabeCubed said, it really depends on the style of deck you want to play.

I think Maverick might be the way you'll want to go. Junk Stoneblade is also pretty sweet, but with Maverick you'll have a decent amount of the cards already.

I've considered both of those, but I feel like without access to blue I think that the deck will suffer from the same problems that plague me with Death and Taxes, except that I'll be hit by Wasteland.

Ah, that makes sense. Problem is, there really aren't too many creature based blue decks out there. I guess there is UWR and Esper Stoneblade. Then there are 4 color Stoneblade decks. Also, forgot to mention, flipping a Delver of Secrets Flip is much easier in Legacy with Brainstorm.

Well the decks use Green Sun's Zenith as a filter effect instead so they don't really need it. Plus Junk is a little less particular about what cards you find since it has a lot more answers and less "locks"

I know Delver is, but the modern version has but a sour taste for Delver decks in my mouth sadly. I guess I'll look more into proxying UWR Stoneblade since its cheaper and maybe Maverick. Maverick seems like a lot of fun but that it would lose to combo and miracles a lot.

I get that. And I would just test those two out. Miracles has always had a big presence, but I haven't seen too much combo, except for Storm at this point, due to the banning of Dig Through Time. I think I'd wait a bit if I were you on Maverick. Just because of this meta. I don't know how Stoneblade will do in this meta though. It seems to be waning in popularity. Maybe it'll start coming back?

What? Maverick beats combo and miracles on a regular basis, especially games two and three. The combo decks have a hard time fighting through Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and miracles has a hard time with almost all of your utility but especially Gaddock Teeg, and Qasali Pridemage.

titanreaver I completely forgot about all of those cards. Thank you. I know those matchups get a lot better after sideboard, but I don't really know the pre-board games too well. I haven't really looked into Maverick, to be honest.

Not to be cheeky, but what's stoping you from throwing three tundras and four brainstorms into death and taxes? You've got fetches and stone forge Mystics to shuffle.

You have already stated what your problem is. It will not be fixed by throwing Brainstorm into a deck tailored to beat decks that abuse Brainstorm by stopping them for profiting off of Brainstorm.

One cool thing I saw that I have now started playing is a death and taxes list splashing black for Dark Confidant and Thoughtseize. It is odd but it works for me right now.

While Maverick decks tend to be in Abzan colors, Bant aggro/control decks are also a solid use for some of your cards.
This deck is basically just goodstuff, playing Knight, TNN, Stoneforge, etc. I'm not sure about the price, but it does use a sizeable amount of D&T; cards and can be reworked to fit Mom if you want to.
