All my friends are playing Legacy, and I don't have a deck.

Title is somewhat self-explanatory. I've never looked at legacy nor do I know what works nor own any legacy-specific cards.
My meta varies from casual to competitive; Miracles, Aluren, Burn, Vampires, Lands, Show and Sneak, Dredge, to name a few.
I want to build a deck that is fringe. I don't like building what thousands of other people have built before. In my play playgroup I'm also known as the Mardu player, and I'd prefer to run a deck in those colors (red-white-black). As for budget I can spend a bit, but I don't want to spend more than $40 on any given card in the deck. I'd prefer if my deck was more on the casual side than competitive but still be competent in winning a game or two against some of the tougher decks. (I'd prefer not to get completely shut down all the time at least.)
Does any deck type come to mind under these specifications? It can be a deck type that runs two of the colors and I can splash in the third to make it unique. Originally I was planning on building a Parfait deck that runs on the Scroll Rack + Land Tax engine, but my friends say the Parfait strategy is too clunky in today's meta which I find rather shocking.
Any ideas or recommendations as to what to build? If not I might try building a Parfait deck and say I tried. Thank you for your suggestions.
1/ You have to have a very good excuse NOT to play blue and Force of Will in Legacy.
2/ The best thing I can think of is Mardu Taxes:
4 Rishadan Port, 4 Wasteland, 14 other lands
4 Aether Vial
4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
3 Mother of Runes
4 Deathrite Shaman
3 Stoneforge Mystic
1 Batterskull
3 Magus of the Moon
1 Umezawa's Jitte
4 Swords to Plowshares
4 Thoughtseize
4 Dark Confidant
3 Recruiter of the Guard
Something like that. Keep in mind, I just made this up.

It's not mardu colors but something like Oops All Soells could be fun. It combos out reanimating Angel of Glory's Rise to bring back Laboratory Maniac and Azami, Lady of Scrolls to win.

Zombardment and whatever the Mardu Deathblade/Lingersouls type deck is at the moment seem OK if not amazing options

Why do most legacy decks that run Stoneforge Mystic and Batterskull run only one or two Batterskulls? Wouldn't running more and adding Masterwork of Ingenuity make a powerful strategy flooding the board with 4/4 vigilant lifelink creatures for cheap? I would imagine adding something like Meekstone would make it over ridiculous for your opponent to counteract.

There are a few reasons for 1-of Batterskull:
- You only need to draw and play 1 to take over and eventually win the game
- Playing 4x Stoneforge Mystics lets you pretend to have 5 copies
- Drawing one without a Stoneforge Mystic to help you cheat on the cost is super clunky
- It frees up more slots in your deck for other cards, including other "toolbox" options for Stoneforge Mystic
With that having been said, there's nothing stopping you from exploring a new strategy where the whole point of the deck is to flood the board with Batterskulls. Play Masterwork of Ingenuity, play Phyrexian Metamorph (can also copy the Mystic!), play whatever, go nuts.

I just want to point out. I wouldnt get into legacy unless you really want to do well in it because to a lot of people the allure of legacy is the fact that its a really hard format to master with a lot of hard decks to learn and its a challenge to be good at it. But to others it is just fun to play so its important to decide if you are any of these and which one.

You could try the Helm of Obedience combo deck.
