I know you use Balustrade Spy to mill yourself, but how do you get the spy into play?
So you want to win the dice roll and choose to go second or lose the dice roll and hope your opponent goes second. From there, you draw for your turn, don't play anything and discard a dredger, or use a card like Phantasmagorian to discard cards.
You have 4 probe, 4 street wraith, and sometimes Mishra's Bauble to dredge further. You also have 4 Ichorid, 4 Narcomoeba, 4 Nether Shadow that come back from the graveyard to sacrifice off with dredged Cabal Therapy to make zombie tokens or flashback Dredge Return to bring back Spy, mill your deck and reanimate flayer who should then let you one shot them.
There is a better article here. http://www.starcitygames.com/article/28175_Leaving-A-Legacy-Manaless-Dredge-At-SCGLA.html

In my experience, Balustrade Spy is a Dread Return target for the combo kill.
Check it out in action right here.

Mana less Dredge is more resilient to counter spells, however just about folds to any kind of graveyard hate. One can still build mana Dredge on a budget, without Lion's Eye Diamond, and be effective. LED does take it up a notch, tho. Overall, mana Dredge is the better choice.
Do read the article Chief posted and read up on LED/Mana Dredge as well. It's a biatch to pilot, but fun, and quite the boogeyman of a deck. It can win matches out of nowhere, if played correctly, and there's little GY hate floating around.
