Entomb vs Street Wraith

I'm wondering if running entomb in the slots of my dredge deck where wraith currently is would work

Advantages: can keep hands without a dredger or a way to put a dredger into the yard, instant speed, protects you partially from graveyard hate

Disadvantages: it doesn't dredge, costs mana

You might want to post up a decklist in the thread, then we know what you are talking about.

However, in general Street Wraith is better for Dredge. Entomb is when you need a specific card in your graveyard, which is more akin to a Reanimator build.

But as I sa it makes the list more consistent without slowing the deck down too much

Where do you get the mana to cast entomb turn one or two? Anything outside of those turns makes it really bad.

Unless you aren't running manaless, in which case, I would still say that the wraithe is better.

The thing about street wraith is that it's a "free" dredge while entomb costs mana

It's mana dredge and its 2 entomb vs 2 wraith most the time it'll be irrelevant

Entomb would be good for when you want to present a dread return plan. As far as enabling the dredge engine you would run street wraith. In LED dredge I don't think they really want either though. You would run careful study, breakthrough, and faithless looting.

But none of those 3 are instant speed or able to protect a dredger, also in my mind entombx2 is grave troll 5+6

Look how about you just test it out?

I figured it's not a new idea and get an answer from someone who's tried it, also can't really test at my lgs they don't legacy bro

The mana cost and instant speed of Entomb makes it irrelevant as to which one is more usable. The issue with Entomb is that it's not a creature. You can always hardcast Street Wraith when you're in a pinch, it makes Golgari Grave-Troll bigger, and it feeds Ichorid.

I feel like Entomb is either going to be "win more" or it's part of a hand you should just mulligan away.

sylvannos not sure if you meant should if you meant would, coz entomb means you can keep that hand with Faithless Lootingx2 Breakthrough Careful Study and 2 lands (and entomb ofc)

@tyforthevenom: Naw, I definitely meant "you should mulligan." A hand with some cantrips and 2 lands doesn't become better with Entomb. If you're on the draw, you're planning on your opponent not having turn one Deathrite Shaman to eat the Entomb target. And while it's unlikely you'll whiff on Breakthrough with hitting a dredger, it's entirely possible.

I think I'd rather mulligan with any hand that I'd be relying on Entomb. If it were Street Wraith, you could Faithless Looting and dredge back all in one turn. Any hand where Entomb would be good, Street Wraith just seems like it'd be better.
