Free tabernacle???
Legacy forum

I recently acquired a free The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale. I like the look of the lands deck, but I was wondering how well it was situated in the meta. If it is not well positioned then it could go a long way towards buying a different legacy deck. Any thoughts?

Either way, hold onto it. I'm not great at legacy but the tabernacle is an incredibly strong card, it's on the reserve list, and it isn't gonna get any cheaper. You're guaranteed to need it at some point, so you might as well hold onto it

Its decently situated and about 1/4 of the price of the lands deck. (They run only 1). I personally love lands, I think it is a ton of fun to play, even though I have yet to win a game.

On the one hand, Dig Through Time being banned means that the combo decks are worse, and combo in general is a bad matchup for Lands. On the other hand, Miracles, which will probably become the top deck again, isn't a good matchup either because they can board in stuff like Blood Moon, and they have answers to everything you can do. But you also have to consider that Shardless BUG and Infect prey on Miracles, and that Lands has good matchups against both of those decks... It gets complicated, mostly because Lands is a metagame deck like Legacy Jund.
I suppose it then comes down to whether or not you want to spend the other 1500-2000 dollars on Lands or not.

Lands is a good deck, and is considered one of the harder decks to learn in legacy. If you are careful, miracles is a decent matchup. You really have to get used to it.

I feel like this post was intended for the OP to say, "Hey, look what I got for free so FU all." while also asking a serious question about legacy. Touche OP, touche.

Lands is good. You just have to be really dedicated to learning how to play it, and accept that you have a lot of matchups that aren't really winnable to go along with the matchups that are unloseable. It's one of the harder decks to play, for sure.

So when you say "lands", are you talking about "Eternal Garden", "Landstill", "4c Loam", "Pernicious Mace" or what was it "42 lands", or what? I assume these days you are speaking "Eternal Garden" but I could be wrong. The only problem right now is that people board or main, a lot of crap to hate on graveyards to beat "dredge" and "reanimation" and those same things just happen to be bad news for you. Not that you couldn't build a "Lands" deck that doesn't revolve around the graveyard but it would be difficult. However when the meta isn't full of graveyard hate "Lands" is incredible. I remember for a time "Lands" was unbeatable and the only reason it wasn't also most played is due to its difficulty in learning (as previously mentioned). Now something else to consider is there are plenty more decks that feature The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale, like "Stax". The basic question is do you like long grindy matchup, then there is definitely a deck for you even if "Lands" isn't it. All of that being said, congratulations on your set card, and I hope you find something fun to do with it.

Lands is ALWAYS eternal garden. Landstill is Landstill, 4c Loam I don''t even know what that is, same with pernicious Mace, and 42 lands is way too many. I feel you spend a lot of time on mtgtop8

Okay so "Lands" is not always "eternal garden" because lands excited as a deck before any of that decks win conditions existed. So "Lands" can mean a lot of things. Also I spelled that wrong its "pernicious Jace". Back in the day we just had "Lands" with Mishra's Factory, Treetop Village, Ensnaring Bridge, and a bunch of other stuff I don't remember at the moment. So there's that.

Thats called landstill. Its win conditions didnt exist, but it still played a similar land base.

it was "landstill" after people added blue for Standstill. That is why "Landstill" is called that. Because they took "Lands" and added Standstill to make "Landstill". Then someone added Stifle and Phyrexian Dreadnought and made "dreadstill". Which that deck doesn't look anything like its grandfather. Secondly "Lands" also ran things like Goblin Welder and Mindslaver for a time, and that deck is not like the Dark Depths version. So again "Lands" can mean a lot of things. Lastly yes I do go on MTGtop8 but I also remember seeing several these things at Regionals, when that was still a thing.

Tabernacle is currently only run by me, in my Pox deck, and the lands decks. Lol. I usually only see it in decks that can fetch it up when necessary. It is a rare and wondrous card. Enjoy it. Hope yours is English, mine is pop pop Italiano.
