As stated. I believe $$$$ may slightly if not majorly Infouence the archetype breakdown we see right now in top 8 tournaments.

But if all decks costed the same and all legscy staples are $1, which archetype would you think be popular?

Some degenerate combo deck or something with Force of Will.

I would say that it doesn't have much of an impact on Top 8s as it is.

Probably Stoneblade.

That's probably true. People that do well consistently in Legacy can play anything they want as is.

I don't know, but for all I care I would play the crap out of Omni-Tell or some Show and Tell deck.

Well, when people think "budget" in Legacy, they usually think of Burn and Elves. Burn costs about $700 bucks and elves can easily cost $2000.

When you're already willing to spend $2K on a "cheap" deck, it's not much of a stretch to justify another $1K to build any other T1 Legacy deck. Most Legacy decks are in the same "ballpark" price range.

I'd say Lands would get a boost because of the Tabernacle costing $800 thing, but that deck is dirt cheap online and still doesn't see a ton of play.

That's pretty much the beauty of Legacy. It's so diverse that people tend to play what they like rather than just what's cheap.

I don't really think much of the Legacy community compromises on costs all that much. When you're already spending 2K+ on a deck, going something like 3K or whatever doesn't seem preposterous. It's already such a huge commitment that most people would rather take that extra year to piece together the money the need for the deck they actually want to play. That's a little different for formats like Modern. For instance, the archetype I decided to play appealed to me because most money cards are staples used elsewhere and I could reasonably expect to trade for half of my deck within a month here on TO. That's much less of a commitment. In this case, I didn't actually experience a huge barrier of entry into the format, so going with a deck that would eventually branch into other things in the format didn't bother me.

Omnitell, Miracles, RUG Delver, etc.

Basically the same lists that are played now. Many people don't predicate their deck choices on cost. They borrow, trade up, etc. to play the optimal deck.

price isnt really prohibitive to people who already play legacy, as stated above 2k vs 3k isnt really a big different once youre talking about that kind of investment. if price was not an object you wouldn't see a big change in the top 8 all that much, what you would see is people changing decks more often.

that being said...there are underplayed decks like lands and pox decks that want chains that people avoid b/c they aren't true tier 1 strategies and a big investment on 1-2 cards.
