so i have a black control deck thatis failry modern in format with very little god- cards, lookign back on older sets i see just how awesome the older black was for creature and player control, and i very much want that for my own black deck; is there a way for me to make my black deck more powerfull and quicker?

None of us have any idea what your black deck is or what older cards you're interested in including.

Also, are you looking to play competitive Legacy, or is Legacy just the format in which your deck happens to be legal?

Competitive legacy pushes past $500 for "meh" decks. With fetch lands (like Polluted Delta ) and the original dual lands (like Tundra ), it's not hard to play a boat load of colors. Most control decks in legacy use blue for Jace, the Mind Sculptor , Force of Will , and Brainstorm .

Unfortunately, all of black's strong control cards are banned in legacy (namely Mind Twist and Necropotence ). Hymn to Tourach and Sinkhole are still legal, though. I'd suggest a shell starting with:

4x Hypnotic Specter

4x Hymn to Tourach

4x Sinkhole

4x Dark Ritual

4x Wasteland

4x Liliana of the Veil

Sylvannos is onto something there, there was a black discard deck in Vintage a few years back, very budget and did decent. This was before the real rise of Fish in the format though. And of course, Pox is still around if you want to focus more on land control.

I forgot when I posted about Smallpox in Legacy.

Here's a sample list from Daily MTG.

Nope because it uses Mishra's Factory . That way, you don't lose creatures to Smallpox . You cast it, then activate Mishra's Factory and swing since they won't have any blockers left. Not to mention, you can just sit there with Nether Void and play manlands, getting around the "counter unless you pay 3" part.

Well, one fun creature that Pox decks does use is Bloodghast , because of the constant sacrificing, but whenever you play a land he comes right back. I've also seen some run Tombstalker . But these Pox decks really aren't creature based.

those ideas are really cool. any other suggestions, or decks i could look up?

Dark Confidant

Damnation

Bitterblossom

Sensei's Divining Top (VERY synergistic with Dark Confidant )

For a mono-black deck, I do believe that Pox Decks (even B/G) variations are your best best. Pox is a deck that messes up a lot of decks, especially combo (Turn 1; Swamp +Duress . Turn 2; Swamp +Hymn to Tourach is just devastating to anyone)

Other than that, there's no MonoBlack decks that are doing to great. Haha, and in my opinion; B/G is the better version of Pox decks, because if Abrupt Decay , and (this card is wonderful anywhere, but with all the Heavy discarding, it gets so much better) Tarmogoyf . But Mono-Black Pox is still a force to be reckoned with.
