starting a legacy specific thread b/c i don't play standard.
But i have a very strong feeling this replaces karn in MUD/12 post builds. should easily be put into play by turn 4. turn 3 on nut draw.
his minus just destroys all fair strategies and will usually keep him alive at 4 loyalty.
thoughts?
yea that's basically exactly my mindset, his exile + pernicious deed is so strong. it's repeatable and cost wise pretty consistent turn 3-4

After the initial release, I bet Ugin will settle to fairly inexpensive. I can see him even being a budget replacement for Karn in Tron (Modern) or alongside him, perhaps in some lists.
I updated a colorless 12 Post list I had to more of a 'MUD' list and added a copy of Ugin to test. Interesting thus far. (Femme_Fatale added him into the database :-)

So legacy value huh? Vintage value perhaps? That means his price skyrockets.

Yeah, I can see Ugin, the Spirit Dragon reaching Karn Liberated prices awhile after rotation. That is, if he's used in a list that places consistently.

yes for sure his EDH value will be crazy, if this does see legacy/vintage value the foil will probably end up in the 100 range like karn. even if it barely sees modern play.

Planeswalkers are terrible in MUD because they aren't artifacts. That means they cost more from Lodestone Golem, can't add mana from Metalworker, and can't be cheated into play via Kuldotha Forgemaster.
I'd rather just play another copy of Sundering Titan or Spine of Ish Sah.

Good points. I have seen Karn in MUD lists, previously, but it's been awhile. Probably due to the reasons you stated, sylvannos.
Now what about other 12 Post Lists? Ugin can possibly come out a turn sooner than Eldrazi and can be a better, permanent Dust/Deed effect. I can see him being used primarily for the -X ability, if anything, in 12 Post. Being able to clear Jace, Lily, TNM (or not?), Goyf, and so forth is quite potent. Granted we have All Is Dust and Oblivion Stone at our disposal, however they're not a 'Walker with other abilites. Even his +2 can remove most critters in the format and can get around colored protection, which may or may not be a thing, but still.
To the point, I think Ugin deserves testing and wouldn't be surprised if he does make some winning lists.

He's alsmost a permanent All Is Dust meets Pernicious Deed, except he exiles cards, which is amazing. I like him and may test 1-2 in my mono build. MUD loves him, although I haven't seen Karn in a MUD list in awhile. No bother.
Regardless, Ugin is worth testing in MUD and 12 Post.
