UW or UWr

Legacy forum

So i recently tried to play some legacy matches on untap with a new UWr miracles counter/top deck that I want to use for the TO 3rd league. My first match was versus a straight UW miracles, and I won in 3 matches after a poor third game sideboard on his part. He did have red splash in his sideboard, but it didn't play much of a role in the game. The second game I played the guy quit halfway through the second match after he won the first. He played a Scalding Tarn into a Volcanic Island, so I assumed he had some red cards, but they never showed.

My point is that Miracles is such a powerful and prevalent archetype, and I'm curious which is the better version? Mana isn't an issue with so many fetches in the decks, so do people think that the splash for Pyroblast/Red Elemental Blast and Lightning Bolt is worth it?

Having Pyroblast has saved my ass in multiple games, especially in a counter war or for removing Counterbalance, but there isn't much else in the meta that it would be great against (except maybe for Show and Tell, so is it worth it to keep it for the mirror matches?

Lightning Bolt is a catch-all card, and has definitely proven its worth. However, having the red cards has forced me to drop some counterspells, which would help me in other matches.

Play red. No Mountain necessary because it's more or less free. The SB cards are too good.

You're on Miracles. Got it.

First of all, Please, Please don't play Lightning Bolt in your miracles deck. It really isn't worth it.

My sense is that the UWr version is better. Adding two copies of Volcanic Island isn't much of a cost and having access to Red Elemental Blast or Pyroblast has a very high upside in the mirror and vs. omnitell. Additionally Blood Moon is great against decks like Deathblade or 12(10)post. Also, you bring in pyroblast against:

  • Miracles

  • OmniTell

-Storm, you have so many dead cards in this matchup you want cards that do something.

That's like 25% of legacy decks, if you want a sideboard card to be more versatile you aren't going to find many.

When I ran Miracles, I actually ran a Mountain in the side.... because Wasteland. The splash is worth it, no Lightning Bolt though.
