Being new to legacy id like to know what the meta looks like. What decks are the most viable right now? This question is not about the online meta, strictly paper magic.

Well I can tell you it's blue. I can't tell you much more than that. I know of a few popular decks though.

Esper Stoneblade - built around Stoneforge Mystic

UR Delver - it's an actual thing. May play Banana King, like the Modern version

UW Miracles - cards from AVR with the miracle keyword. Abuses Brainstorm and other such effects.

Shardless BUG - Shardless Agent aggro/control

Sneak and Show - Sneak Attack and Show and Tell

Those are the big ones. I probably missed a few that qualify as big ones, but I don't know the format that well. There are dozens of other decks available, all requiring varying degrees of skill.

MTGTop8.com is a great resource for these kinds of questions.

Brainstorm is played in 82% of all decks in Legacy. Too damn much blue.

The best thing about legacy is that any deck can beat any deck. (Given that the deck is competitive, not just a jank deck). It all matters about the pilot of the deck. The best example I can give you about this, is that my friends lent me this 2000$deck for a tournament, and went 0-4. Then I take my 300$ dredge deck and go 3-1. It takes a lot more to pilot a deck in legacy, rather than counter shit and play splinter twin. My best advice to you is find a deck you're comfortable playing. Because once you build it, you probably won't want to sell the cards cause you'll lose so much value. But other than that, it's a great format! Good luck :)

I have My First Jeskai Stoneblade in the works,I've been play testing it on forge and it seems to do really well. I love the idea of a somewhat midrange type deck that uses control if the game carries on!

@ryanjoha

False. You try beating 12 Post as Miracles.

Infect

Some tier 2 stuff that you can expect to see

Delverless Grixis

Pikula/Deadguy Ale

Reanimator

Throw in 12 Post, MUD, Merfolk and Nic Fit as well.

Miracles will usually run a grand total of 0 of either of those cards.

Miracles runs Blood Moon occasionally. But in general Miracles loses about 80% of the time when playing 12 post.

Why is the 12 post vs miracles matchup so slanted? Is it just because the eldrazi can't be countered?

It is because Miracles wants to go long but 12 post has a much stronger end game than miracles which forces miracles to be the aggro deck which doesn't usually work well.

Coming from a Miracles player, you can literally do everything right in your game against 12 Post and still get blown out.

In fact, the biggest reason to play 12Post is because you get to stomp all over miracles.

Also, you should be on the lookout for 4c delver, Tezzeret decks, and Nic Fit/Veteran Walkers. They're gaining in popularity online recently. (Though I'm not sure why)

I mean, that's fun but not GOOD. (Also, why play creatures when you could play Nicol bolas?)
