What would screw more with Legacy-Elitists?
Legacy forum

Hey,
there will be a small local legacy tournament this sunday. Even though it will be casual, I know a lot of "elitists" will show up with foiled out decks and I want to screw a little with them.
I currently own three Wastelands - Expidition, Eternal Masters, Eternal Masters foil and I want to add the old version.
I also borrowed alpha, beta, revised and unlimited duals and I play foil unhinged basics next to White bordered ones.
Would there be any other way to "annoy" them? I thought about using missmatched tokens too or maybe get a deckbox/sleeves that really don't fit my deck.

Love that! and all dice will look different and I'll do 2x6+2x4. Instead of 4x5.

Don't sleeve your cards (but play carefully) , that seriously messes with some people's psyche :)

I can't play Alpha Duals without sleeves. I mean I could, but my wallet isn't big enough for that. :D

For Tokens use DnD Minis. And yes, this is legal. A token can be anything that isn't an MTG card.

Cut one, single, solitary card off the top of their deck to the bottom.

@PhotogenicParasympathetic: I DO THAT!! An (ex)gf once bought me a set of rainbow unicorn sleeves that I use for such an occasion too.. The reactions are great..

I usually cut in half and then but the top card on bottom.

If you are good enough friends with the other player I've always found the best way to mess with someone is while during the cut, take half the deck, spin it around, and do a few quick shuffles. If you aren't friends with the opponent I wouldn't try this though, it's really on the top tier or prick moves
Otherwise riffle shuffling a mtg deck really sets people's teeth on edge, especially if they pimped out their deck.

Nah, I don't want to damage those cards/sleeves. There decks have the worth of a small car, I don't want to pay that. :D

Riffle shuffling doesn't damage cards, people think it does but as long as you do it correctly it doesn't damage anything

Do the one card by itself, it gets strange looks everytime..
December 21, 2016 7:42 a.m.
EpicFreddi says... #14
I've never riffle shuffled, so I don't want to take the risk.
Metroid_Hybrid Yeah, I'll give that a shot. G1 I'll take the top card, G2 the bottom card. :D

Show up with a pre-con intro deck and just swap in the land base.

Don't shuffle your hand (or flick) at all.
Use a notepad, not for life, but rather to keep track of how many 'sick plays' you've made (and a sick play is like, cracking a fetch on your turn for no reason).
Be SUPER friendly and just happy to be there like someone who enjoys playing Magic, they hate people who enjoy playing Magic.
Make sound effects for every spell, every effect, and every combat.

Elite: "That's not even what a Brainstorm sounds like!!!"
EpicFreddi: 'It's a storm! of my brain! It can make any noise I want!'
"Why would a Taiga entering make a noise?!"
'It's a mountain with trees slamming onto another land mass! Do you know how loud that would be?! Maybe if I didn't stack my lands"
"Why would a Lightning Bolt sound like bubbling noises?"
'I cast it with a Volcanic Island obviously, I am a mage of many colours.'
"Drawing a card... you can keep making noises but stop doing it for every drawn card"
'...In response I cast brainstorm'
"What does manaless dredge sound like?"
'Why would I know that?'

Haha bring a faked grading case and keep a volcanic in it, when it comes time to play pull it out of the case and sleeve it up. That might get some rage

Rather than just putting lands in front of everything else, you could go as far as to put them in line with everything else. On top of the aggravation, it could also let you steal some games when they miss something in the pile.

Oh my specialty (I play edh in toploaders for trolling)
first sleeves for your deck, you want the highest quality penny sleeves. The unicorn sleeves you mentioned might work too. Secondly, you will want to play with different arts for each land if possible. Third, you will want to play (saying cast Taiga with sound effects) lands either upside down with the board facing opponent or every other card upside down. Next, to tap your lands, you want to tap each land 32.5 degrees. For extra fun, make each tap face a different way. Next, life dice: you will want: 1 D100, 1D8, 1D6, 1D4, 1D10 and 1D12. Mix and match to create your life total, but keep the D100 at 0 until your life total goes above 50. Next, Life pad used for keeping track of every 4th word your opponent says. Finally, when asked for a cut, do a noticeable false cut then switch the bottom and top cards, or put the top X cards to the cards. X being the amount of patience they dont have left. bonus tip: dont take too long thinking, just play best route in the shortest time possible.
I do like the token idea, the no flick idea, and putting all cards in the same line (more evilly vertically, less evilly, lands to the right or left, nonlands to the other side).

Oh i forgot 4 very important tips: 1 playmat of the Ouija board variety, keep your deck on the same side of the board your opponent's is, and call judge over for every small ruling check (they have to/are supposed to abide by small rulings checking as long as you did not ask the same question constantly or regularly), every third round ask for the judge to shuffle and check deck to make sure legality and not stacked (assisted judge shuffle). Also nice: graveyard hate in the form of phyrexian furnace to force graveyard order maintenence
also fun rules reminders to exploit if allowed:
100.6b Players can use the Magic Store & Event Locator at Wizards.com/Locator to find tournaments in their area. --Unless restricted by head judge/judges for the tourney.
201.3. If an effect instructs a player to name a card, the player must choose the name of a card that exists in the Oracle card reference (see rule 108.1) and is legal in the format of the game the player is playing. --in reference to pithing needle and phyrexian revoker
Layers fun (2 opalescence + enchanted evening)/dependencies
Quickest magic effects: judge rulings > conceding >= taking off pants (denimwalk) > land for turn >= morph > banisher priest's return to battlefield
Rampant growth to cast panglacial wurm from your deck but cracking chromatic star(mana ability so crack cant be stifled). resolution draw a card while casting a spell while searching library. more fun can be had here.
Goblin test pilot and Suppression field is an infinite that you have to manually pick random targets for EACH time. Same with unlimited untaps

A lot of those suggestions just makes the judges hate you too.
That's why I prefer the riffle approach. It tilts some players and it's completely legal and doesn't waste the judge's time.
December 21, 2016 3:49 p.m.
EpicFreddi can't remember if this is legal or not, but placing your in play cards in an odd way can really p**s some people off. So lands closest to opponent, then artifacts etc. then creatures.
Also as they play each v. expensive card in their deck ask "how much is that worth?".

Cancerous thread is cancerous.
Also, intentionally bricking an opponent's deck will result in a judge call from many players due to the time it takes to put the deck in the proper order.
December 21, 2016 4:20 p.m.
Ohthenoises says... #29
By bricking are you referring to spinning it around? Cause that's not illegal and there's no "proper order" so as per the actual rules there's nothing they can really do.

Play a one-of Storm Crow for the ultimate secret tech.
December 21, 2016 5:17 p.m.
And track life with a d8, a d10, and a coin (But use a pog instead of an actual coin). Tap permanents in varying directions. If you can get away with it, ask to read their cards as often as possible.
December 21, 2016 5:25 p.m.
Constantly move your cards to different spots on the field. Re read the simplest c cards over and over. Use the most beat up and hard to read version of the cards
December 21, 2016 9:07 p.m.
Definitely what shadow said, ask what the most well-known and important cards in legacy are (what does "forge of will" do again?). To add on, if you have a few cheap cards you don't mind fucking with a little, draw stick figures or some shit on them, as long as you don't totally cover the art or text. Maybe write dab or something on the art of a brainstorm or something. Pronounce your own cards really wrong. Us some basic lands from kaladesh packs if you aren't already.
December 21, 2016 11:20 p.m.
Mismatched D6's, different colors, maybe if you want to think up a slogan to go with some of your cards. What deck are you playing? Also, maybe if you want, some of the time when your opponent plays a card, saw, oh once I was playing in __ and someone did _ to my ____. Good luck

December 25, 2016 3:47 p.m.
Have your creatures talk to each other (planeswalkers can join in, too!) especially when your opponent is trying to concentrate and/or is taking a long time.
December 26, 2016 10:49 a.m.
Play 4 Horsemen for the first time with only a vague understanding of how the deck actually works so you can durdle for 1/2 an hour and then whiff.
December 30, 2016 8:26 a.m.
chaosumbreon87 says... #41
unless you can show the statistics of each outcome, 4 horsemen is not worth the time in any event. The judge will call slow plays until DQ if the board state does not develop between cycles. Feel free to appeal to a higher level judge if your judge does not understand the law of averages and the law of large numbers though. If you need sharuum or SBT 4 horsemen then i can provide.

Come to the tournament with your cards facing upside-down in the deck, pile shuffle, and then spend lots of time making them all face the same direction.
Call mountains "fire mana", forests "tree mana", and so on.
Buy a drink beforehand, and slurp when your opponent is taking a long time.
Read the flavor text on cards, preferably in weird voices.
Pronounce cards wrong. (I think someone else said this. If so, I agree).
Hex Parasite- Lose before they play a single card.
