Cube: Zendikar to Avacyn Restored, Rares-Mythics only, no Core Sets

Recently I played in my friends cube which featured all of the rares and mythics from Zendikar to Avacyn Restored. These were actually proxies on regular paper cut out and put in sleeves over a regular basic land. There were only rares and mythic rares meaning you actually got to keep your powerful creatures for quite awhile!

I started with Glissa, the Traitor as first pick and ended up with this:

Sword of Feast and Famine
Sword of Body and Mind
Batterskull
Consuming Vapors
Somberwald Sage
Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief
Harabaz Druid
Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger
Guul Draz Assassin
Nirkana Revenant
Carnifex Demon
Gigantoform

The only card I passed up to hatepull was Agadeem Occultist. I don't remember what I took but I know it was something that cost 8+ and was really bad, except the guy next to me was making an Omen Machine deck which scared the pants off of me.

The only match where I was actually worried was when a guy pulled out a T3 Agadeem Occultist and a T4 Jace, the Mind Sculptor. Now if he had bounced my Somberwald Sage he would have won. Instead he drew cards into..well nothing really. He didn't find the land he needed, stayed @ 4, and I proceeded to cast Sword of Body and Mind and murder jace with the sage, then started unloading Sword of Feast and Famine, Nirkana Revanent, Carnifex Demon and Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief. It was pretty fun.

The craziest part? I somehow only got 14 cards instead of the 15 everybody else had out of the last pack. So then they figure out who has the extra card and it's a worthless red card. So I picked a random card from what was leftover of the cube and that's how I got the Sword of Feast and Famine.

This was only the second time I played cube. The last time it was bassically a mix of the best of modern and legacy. All the powerful removal, only the most efficient creatures etc. And ya know what? This time was way more fun!

Has anybody else ever tried a cube like this? If not I highly recommend it.

That sounds terrible lol Most of the good removal isn't rare, and that hardly sounds like a balanced format. Just "hurr throw bomby creatures around"

Not to mention that basically ensures there are zero actual archetypes in the cube. Terrible.
