Hidden Draft Gems

I started hosting a monthly draft from my friends a while ago and it's been really fun. However, I'm starting to run out of ideas for good sets to draft. So far, we've drafted M15, Origins, RTR, Gatecrash, and Conspiracy 2. We are planning on doing Khans of Tarkir in December. I was wondering what some of your favorite drafts are. We can't draft anything expensive, so no INN, ROE, or Eternal Masters. Thanks everybody and Happy Holidays!

I really think that Kaladesh is fun to draft.

How about some regular conspiracy, or maybe Theros.

DarksteelBadger, I've heard good things about KLD. One of my friends got a deckbuilder's toolkit and wants to draft it so I'll make sure to put it on the list! :)

Kiortio, Both are great suggestions but I thought that the general consensus on Theros is that it wasn't very good to draft. And about reg. Conspiracy, I was always the target when we did cn2 and everyone ganged up on me so I'm not to keen on doing the first one, lol.

Theros set was an amazing draft format, the full block not so much.

One of my favorite drafts is wacky draft. If you're unfamiliar, WD is when everyone brings three packs of his or her choosing to the table. There's always that one person who wants to splurge & bring a Masters pack. Conspiracy can add some major bombs at Common & any set with a lot of mana fixing (KTK, RTR/DMZ Alara Reborn, etc) is really good in small numbers.

Also, I hear Homelands boxes are cheap....

Yeah, Theros was a very fun draft format. There isn't a lot of money in the set, but the limited experience is very good, imo.

Do a Frankendraft: everyone gets 3 different boosters, which they should bring themselves. So if people can find different packs, you can get some crazy stuff going.

If you guys really enjoy drafting, you may want to consider creating a pauper cube, or if you happen to have cash growing on trees or your friends/local game store don't mind you having proxies, putting together a thematic or powerful draft cube.

If cube is not for you, kaladesh is arguably the best draft format in quite a while, otherwise some older draft formats are triple coldsnap, full block ravnica, and my personal favorite Lorwyn/Morningtide.

Thanks everyone for the responses! Frankendraft / Wacky Draft seems fun so I'll definitely do that soon. I didn't draft BFZ or SOI but they seem fun with the cards being synergistic. Are they fun to draft?

A cube is also a possibility and one I've considered before. However, it's a lot of work. Do you guys have any tips or suggestions on building a cube, or should I just copy one off the internet :) Also, are block cubes good (ie Ravnica Cube, Innistrad Cube, etc)?

BFZ, while fun, is a very fast format. Converge plays well in Wacky Draft.SOI is funnish, not quite INN/THR/KLD level though. EMN boxes are pretty cheap, easily $80.

Cubing is a whole different conversation. There's tons info out there. Easiest way to start IMO: 360 cards, each color pair gets a distinct archetype, 50 monocolor cards of each color, 5 multicolor cards of each pair, 30 nonbasic lands, 30 artifacts. Pull all of these from your own collection, get others from your friends. You don't have to go singleton, completely up to you.

The whole BFZ and SOI blocks were very unfun to draft and got stale quickly. KLD is probably the most fun I've had drafting in a while.

This website has a very avid cube community that you can explore into and check out their cubes, otherwise I would recommend checking the Professor's videos (Tolarian Community College on youtube) about cube construction. Pauper Cube is a wonderful starting point, you are only allowed to put commons into it, and it helps control both power level and cost, although there were some insane commons printed, check out the pauper format to get ideas of what powerful commons are and what kind of themes there are!
