A thought about Sorin

In the lore we know that a spark is ignited in a near death situation. Chandra being executed, Jace having a mental fistfight with his boss, etc. But being a vampire Sorin must have died or been killed once before. So does this mean that a spark can ignite beyond the grave or is there a special case with him.

Sorin's spark ignited when he was transformed into a vampire by Edgar Markov, the stress of the transformation causing Sorin's spark to ignite.

While near-death experiences are a common way to have one's spart ignite, they are not the only way such can occur. To provide some examples of other paths to ignition:

  • Ajani's spark ignited when he learned his brother had been killed.

  • Arlinn Kord's spark ignited after she lost control of her werewolf transformation and went on a killing spree.

  • Narset's spark ignited when she learned the truth of Tarkir's history.

  • Samut's spark ignited when she received praise from her goddess, Hazoret.

  • Ugin's spark ignited in a fit of depression when he realized his twin brother was trying to manipulate him.

  • Nicol Bolas' spark ignited because he was very, very angry that Ugin could do something he could not, so he wanted to do it also (because Core 2019's story showed Bolas is actually a petulant child).

The way I understand it, the spark can be ignited by any sort of event that invokes a powerful emotional response, typically in the form of tremendous trauma or a near-death experience.
