A ton of stuff about Ob Nixilis

Well, I'm here. Let's talk about Ob Nixilis.

So, we've all heard of BFZ, the new set set for release in October. In it, we travel back to Zendikar with our old cast of characters (Sorin, Nahiri, bla bla bla), to save the world from the Eldrazi. Again. Apparently, when some planeswalkers met on Zendikar, they inadvertently triggered...something that caused the Eldrazi to awaken. Then, Nissa decides to be a complete idiot and release the Eldrazi, thinking they'd leave Zendikar. Of course, they don't, and now they have to do something about Ulamog.

I care about none of that.

Instead, I wanna talk about one of my favorite creatures: Ob Nixilis, the Fallen-er, technically he's no longer fallen, but I'll get to that. So what's the deal with this demon? Well, I guess I'll start with how he became Ob Nixilis, the Fallen. To cut a long story short, The Chain Veil turned him into a demon (because he was human, as demonstrated in Ob Nixilis of the Black Oath); this transformation also ignited his spark. So of course, he goes to Zendikar, and instantly gets his ass kicked by Nahiri, the Lithomancer. Now, he's got a hedron in his head, and he's lost a good portion of his power. Crisis averted.

Of course not; this bitch is getting power from the Chain Veil!

After being defeated, Ob starts studying the hedrons that were used in his defeat. Then, we get this quote from an UR: "The power is returning to me. I felt this world shudder when Bala Ged was destroyed. In that moment, I could smell the Multiverse again. My spark is within reach. I know what I must do. And that the only cost to regaining my spark will be the complete obliteration of the world I hate most among them all?" So this means that Ob Nixilis will soon regain his spark. Whether or not it'll be soon enough to wreak havoc in BFZ, we don't know. But, if that were the case, what would he do? Many speculate that he could control the Eldrazi, because of his newfound knowledge of hedrons and stuff, but I don't know how good of a theory that is. What do y'all think?

You missed the part where he lets Garruk beat him and take the hedron, causing him to become Ob Nixilis, Unshackled.

Good point ABadMagicPlayer100. That's how he regains his power, bringing us to the point we are at now.

Also, according to UR, he gets his spark after being killed for attempting to destroy the world.

He got his spark when he killed everything else on his home plane with an ancient power and was confronted by the Elder Beings that did it. There's an Uncharted Realms thing about this from when the C14 decks were coming out. There was a ritual that called upon ancient beings that granted wishes and stuff. They'd been called on eight or nine times before and every time they'd been asked to kill the enemy forces. Ob asked for everyone else to die.his wish was granted. He wandered the plane for about a week and then, after accepting that everyone else was dead, he was spoken to by one of the things that did it at his campfire. After having everything explained to him, the thing disappeared and Ob started laughing maniacally and then Planeswalked away.
