So am I the only one that makes a deck, then I will pick out one card in the deck (usually my favorite card) and make up a name and backstory for it and designate it the deck leader. Then I make up over reaching stories for all my decks and I will sit home alone and duel myself and write stories based on my duels. They are all completed made up, I don't really us MTG lore but they entertain me. Does anyone else do this?

I used to have these two decks that I loved to duel against each other. One was a Jace/Liliana mill deck, and the other was a discard/burn Chandra/Liliana build, the idea was that Liliana was tempting them both to fight, and it would always end with either getting Chandra Ablaze s ultimate off, or getting milled out. It was quite entertaining because they were fairly well balanced against each other and there was back-story...good old rule 34.

That's pretty sweet. I have a sorin deck and this other deck that is run by the vizkopa confessor and the story is that sorin runs this city called Baster which is like a safe haven for outcasts and such. Well the leader of the Church of the Black Sun whose name is Jericho (the Vizkopa confessor) decides he is going to overthrow Sorin and take charge of the city. 9 times out of 10 sorin wins but they are always fun matches.

My themes are usually built into my decks, I have a story for a few builds that I just need to actually record. I have a Mardu Sarkhan the Mad Aristocrats/Caw Blade mash up that has Sorin trying to find Sarkhan and free him from his madness...until Sarkhan is destroyed by Withengar Unbound  Flip .

I have a couple themed decks. My white red military deck is lead by Tajic who is hunting Tybalt and trying to capture him to stop him from terrorizing his world.

I read Sorin as Sonic.

Gotta go fast.

I made a Orzhov deck and a Golgari deck designed to fight each other, but only in terms of gameplay.

However, recenty for a friend )to teach her how to play hopefully), I built a Red/Blue dragon deck with the subtheme of prophecy (like, prophesizing a fiery disaster at the hands of dragons). So it has Omenspeaker , Traumatic Visions and Sigiled Skink for the premonition theme, it has some smaller winged reptiles like Dragon Whelp and Azure Drake before hitting the big dragons.

A great idea for a deck is to dream up an environment (like a murky, swampy wood) and then make a singleton deck of creatures ad spells that you might find in said environment. IRather than focus on playability, focus on worldbuilding: your deck may put across its image with a single Bog Wraith , Kessig Recluse , Drown in Filth , Mire Blight , et cetera. See how the cards together form a picture of a place?

I did that kind of with my mono green elfy deck. They are protectors of their forest home. All the creatures in it are tiny 1/1 elves that can end up doing a lot of damage. They are led by the Elvish Archdruid which I named Gavendel. AlsoI have a Vraska deck which is all creepy crawly snakes and spiders and scorpions that I feel like she would surround herself with in her swamp.

My GB elf deck does the same thing, Nissa Revane , Sanguine Bond and Dark Heart of the Wood makes for a juicy game.

Not so much about backstories, but I've often made faction/tribal themed decks for flavorful battles...

i.e. "Today we get to see how the woodland faeries deal with the skeletal legion... Next up, the barbarians are being attacked by the goblin horde!"

Haha I totally pit my elves against my skelemen. The elves usually win though hahaha.

Speaking of skelemen, has anyone ever considered bulding the legendary 5-colour skeleton deck? See with RTR block giving us Mortus Strider , Rot Farm Skeleton and Rakdos Ringleader while Theros block gave us Sentry of the Underworld , skeletons have recently been able to encompass all five colours. Team them with Death Baron ! THE 5-COLOUR SKELETON DECK MUST BE CREATED!

I'd probably cram Kathari Remnant in there somehow.

Here it is, The Legendary Five-Color Skeleton Deck. It's not that good, haven't playtested it yet.

Might make some story decks, this seems like a cool idea.

I really don't think rule 34 should be applied to that MindAblaze! I don't mind Lili, but the other two I would not want to see.

too late, Femme_Fatale, it exists already. All possible pairings, and I'm sure there's a 3-way there somewhere.

There's that work by Steve Argyle that I proxied onto Liliana's Caress which isn't bad...

Isn't that the point of Rule 34 though...you don't get to pick and choose...it just exists.
