What is the reason in the lore why Amonkhet rotated out? I miss those cards! My old Modern deck with Anointed Procession and cats tribal deck was incredibly powerful and was standard during Amnonkhet!
Oh. I thought there was some reason in the lore about the rotation of decks. There should be, at least.

...why should there be a lore reason for Standard rotation? Formats are entirely independent of lore, and other formats exist.

The formats bring lore with them though, right? For instance, in War of the Sparks all of this new lore was coming from their planeswalkers additions.

Standard is the most recent few sets. Rotating out this fall are the ixalan block, dominaria, and core set 2019 on october 4th with the release of throne of eldraine.
There are many reasons for rotating standard
-more accessible to new players
-keeps standard from being stagnant for too long because the most powerful decks tend to lose something with rotation and other decks become more powerful and replace them
-to try and sell more packs. The more money they make, the more content they can produce.
Lore has never and will never have anything to do with rotation because not all set's storylines tie in together. The stories of Ixalan or Dominaria will have little to nothing to do with the upcoming eldraine. If they were to have waited for all of the bolas arc to rotate out, it would have been too many sets still in standard at one time.

I think you may be mistaken in your definition of a format, 9-lives. A format is a method of organization for released sets; they're game modes, if you will. A set, however, is a pool of cards released together and designed for the same play environment (ie for a certain format). Sets are the ones that are centered around a specific story and setting (plane) and have all the lore.
In the Standard format, sets rotate out in order to keep things interesting and maintain the power level of the format. The lore of a set and the rotation of that set are not related.

Maybe I dont actually understand the question here, but every set rotates out after x amount of time. It's the nature of the beast. It doesn't need a lore reason to rotate
