So you want all the relevant creatures or just the top ten most flavorful ones? I was a big fan of the Odyssey storyline (that's when I started playing and I read all the books) so my favorites would be Braids, Cabal Minion, Kamahl, Pit Fighter, Jeska, Warrior Adept, Chainer, Dementia Master, Balthor the Stout etc.

I think the word you are looking for is "variety"?

Toshiro Umezawa is probably the main hero I can think of that shows up as a creature.

That's a pretty big question, as the lore dates back quite a ways.. The Plainswalkers tend to be the focus of the lore's main story, with the charcters they encounter along the way appearing as creatures in the game.

Nicol Bolas, Jace Beleren, and Liliana Vess might be the most developed characters. Most of the legendary creatures appear in the lore. Elspeth, Sun's Champion kills Polukranos, World Eater (if i remember right) and sleeps with Daxos of Meletis.. before killing him. Sorrin created Avacyn, Angel of Hope, who fights Griselbrand ... etc etc etc.

You'd have to narrow it down by set if you curious about what creature was the most influential.

And now to actually list stuff. Basically anything that is legendary is relevant to the story of their set, since they are named creatures who did things. I'd recommend going on MTG Salvation and reading up on the lore of various sets.

How can anyone forget Hurloon Wrangler, the only card ever printed that allows stripping down to your beefy Hanes (or less if you're going commando) as a legitimate blocking strategy if you're wearing jeans during the match?

lemmingllama man lol that's a bunch of hipster cards. They used to have some weird designs in magic ;) pretty neat

If i remember correctly, Polukranos, World Eater was kind of a toss off reference. ie. "their was a scary thing, and i killed it" - Elspeth.

Griselbrand is more interesting. He live on Innistrad and was one of a few demons who made a pact with Liliana Vess to keep her young and powerful. She subsequently travels around looking for The Chain Veil to acquire enough power to kill him and the other demons to free herself of their 'pact', because eternal life and power turn out to suck.. i guess. In the meantime Sorin, Lord of Innistrad and his grandfather (really just the latter) who rule Innistrad - as his name suggests, create the entire vampire race as a quick fix to a famine on Innistrad. No food, no problem.. eat people. You are what you eat, right? But because vampires are OP compared to humans, and he wants the plane to have some balance to it, he also creates Avacyn, Angel of Hope to protect them. Griselbrand, being on the other side of things, takes abjection to that, so goes to kill her; but the fight results in them both getting imprisoned in some super jail called the the Helvault. Liliana of the Veil.. get it, she has the Veil now.. comes to kill Griselbrand, so she smashes the Helvault and makes him dead.

I know some game mechnaic lore that's pretty intersting

So the guy that came up with the you opponent choosing mechnaic was put in a tough spot. He isn't allowed to leave his house he doesn't have a car and hes getting old...

When he first introduced the mechnaic he didn't want people to think he was a scrub so he made.

Gifts Ungiven

Then went on to make

Jace, Architect of Thought

Steam Augury

After that he noticed he wasnt getting anywhere so when khans came around n they expected him to make the set again he messed up his own creature in Tasigur, the Golden Fang

The reason is that tasigur wasn't Orginally designed to mill 2 and He wasn't suppose to give your opponent the option of chosing..

This way they could notice if it's your opponents choice they'd never let you win.... Just like they are doing to him now...

Poor vato
