In today's story we get the exciting conclusion to the Chronicles of Bolas.

Did I just miss it or were they supposed to talk about the planeswalkers in M19? I thought the backstory was going to include how Bolas crossed their paths.

No, it was always meant to elaborate on Nicol and Ugin's rivalry. They just picked the M19 Planeswalkers because they had a relationship to Bolas; most of them weren't born even during the time of the "first layer" story, 18 years after Tarkir's Crux of Fate.

Anyway, I greatly enjoyed this whole story series. I was slightly disappointed with the manner in which Ugin became a Spirit Dragon (I correctly guessed he would fall back to Te Ju Ki's teachings and willfully go through with the process, but I would have rathered he go seeking out a way to specifically become a spirit--rather than have it happen accidentally, if nobly--to mirror Bolas in their shared goal of overcoming the fear of death.). But, it does raise some interesting questions about the nature of the Meditation Realm, and I hope its something that is explored more in the future, even if not soon.

My working theory is that Dominaria was never the nexus of the multiverse; it was the Meditation Realm, a pocket plane of Dominaria, all along. Ugin and Bolas, being the first planeswalkers, were drawn there as the planeswalking hub, but either due to Ugin's death or some other event (Perhaps the Shard of the Twelve Worlds or its dissolution) it lost the status of nexus. Maybe even as a result of the mending, when the nature of the spark changed, but I think it would have had to have been earlier.

I am very glad that the story ended well, and none of the main characters died. I see that Bolas briefly visited Ravnica when he first awoke his spark, but likely did not remain there for very long, and also of interest was the brief mention of Kephalai, a plane that has been seen only in Planechase planes, thus far.

Is this the end of the chronicle of Bolas, or will there be more?

This was the last M19 story, so yes. But that means it won't be too long until Guilds of Ravnica story starts!

I liked that Ugin and Nicol briefly went to Ravnica, but I was more enthused by the fact it was referred to as "growing." It wasnt yet the sprawling metropolis we know today; that's how long ago all of this was, and yet also that's how old the Ravnican society is. Time is cool.
