Elspeth in the Underworld

In the video "Theros Block Reels", a brief scene which displays Elspeth's clay mask and Ajani mourning is shown. What happened to Elspeth after she was slain, and where Ajani go afterward?

Yeah I really doubt she's dead and gone.

Death in Theros

During her hero's journey, Elspeth transcended her everyday fears. Her own comfort and safety were no longer her primary concerns. She sacrificed herself for the love of Daxos, the love of Theros, and the love of innocents who can't protect themselves.

When mortals die in Theros, they go to the Underworld. The living can only speculate what the Underworld is really like, because the Returned reveal nothing.

If there are more obstacles waiting for Elspeth, she will face them unhindered by mundane cares and concerns, more powerful than ever before.

It's mainly that last sentence that says it.

But I highly doubt this is the last of her.

I think she was killed before they got back to Theros, and the JOU trailer is narrated by Erebos so it seems that Erebos has claimed her for the underworld. The dismantling of Godsend (blade and handle visible on the ground next to the mask's pedestal in the reel) and the use of the blade's cross guard as part of the mask (blue orbs, one on top of the other) she might use in there.

Ajani returned to Theros safely, and I think it's safe to assume he'll just planeswalk away for the time being.

I'm thinking Erebos claims Elspeth as his Champion and begins to rebel against Heliod.

I also thought it was really really interesting how they showed corrupted Karn, Elesh Norn, and Koth too.

But how did Erebos get Godsend? I though Heliod took it after he killed Elspeth.

I heard somewhere, that the underworld cannot claim Elspeth, because she died inside the temple of mystery, so other rules apply.

Don't confirm that through me though, I've not read the E-Books.

If she's going to come back (which I think she will) I think it will be as white black because it is really strong in theros. Another kinda unlikely idea is that somehow she'll become a god of 3 colors along with some other planeswalkers from through out the years but that's unlikely because Xenagos was killed when he did it.

First of Xenagos' actual fate is unknown. We know he falls, we have no knowledge if he is dead, gone into hiding or if he planeswalked the frick out of there (since we also have no idea how planeswalking comes and go in relevance to being a God).

I can see a return to Theros at sometime to complete the full Greek Tragedy and have Nyx be completely destroyed. (Plus I really want to see Kruphix in planeswalker form) Elspeth would have to completely die, most likely after her soul has been consumed into a darker returned side fully plagued by the old torturing of the Phyrexian. As in true Greek tragedy, she'd have to die to Daxos, and then via that act/pain Daxos could become a blue/white planeswalker. At least, this is what the Greek fanatic in me wishes to happen. Also Elspeth slaying Heliod would be great.

Yeah I think elspeth will rebel against Heliod because a lot of people seem to want to see that

Ultimaodin I believe MaRo stated that becoming a God did nothing to Xenagos's spark.

The dead hero raising against the childish God is also a pretty common thing in Greece Mythology. It's why I loved the first God of War game because it was exactly what I wanted - a Greek Tragedy. I ignore the proceeding games (but played them regardless hoping they'd go back to the origional style but it never happened)

Elspeth as a returned killing Heliod and trying to destroy Nyx would just be a great arc and again, I want to see Kruphix in walker form. Plus Daxos dealing a final cut to any concept of Elspeth's life would just be straight out perfect Greek Tragedy. Not to mention we never heard about the origional R/G god. Also given that Theros was also going to have a tonne of Roman stuff in it we could easily see a new empire/city that is similar to Roman/Rome to be part of a return where few of the pantheon retain worship after an invasion leading to an eventual collapse of Nyx.

GoldGhost012 - Ah, I must have missed that post by MaRo. Thanks for informing me, I was always wondering if he'd be able to planeswalk of Theros if necessary. Now it all comes down to, is he dead or did he do just that.
