Epiphany at the Drownyard

So I was looking at the flavor text and trying to get a closer look at the art. I haven't read all the UR yet so maybe the answer is in there, but what specifically is it that Jace and Tamiyo have found?

What am I staring at essentially and why is it important?

Warpgate to an elder god. Done.

Someone on Facebook theorized that it lead to castle Sengir. I think that'd be insane.

I think Ulgrotha is something WOTC is trying to avoid.

It looks a bit like Myr Reservoir, but that can't be right...

CastleSiege says... #6

We don't know yet. All we know is that it has something to do with Nahiri channeling the plane's mana through those stones. Too me it looks like some sort of portal.

I know this won't happen but I need some Marit Lage action. Wizards Please

Looks like a summoning portal to me. For a really big, powerful demon. Or a god.

Or a big Eldrazi titan that starts with "Emra" and ends with "Kul."

A forum im on seems pretty sure that the floaty thing in the middle of the cryptoliths is a boat with a drake on it.

What it vaguely looks like to me, is that Nahiri is using all the crypoliths to focus all the white mana on Innistrad into that central location. Maybe?

Considering Angels and Demons, based on what I've learned of the lore, don't actually have souls and are rather manifestations of white and black mana. By sucking away all the white mana, that could hint towards why Avacyn went nuts. Being Sorin's creation, she was probably imbued with elements of white and black mana, hence her black/white appearance. So when all her white mana was gone, she was only left with the hatred, twistedness, and vile attitude of her black mana.

Just a scrub theory.

kanokarob says... #16

Well the part about sucking all the mana to a point was already confirmed by the mediocre wannabe evolving wilds. Sucking the white mana from Avacyn certainly could be a reason for her madness but, from the Drownyard Temple's art, doesnt appear to be her goal. That looks very clearly like a portal of some sort to me.

I NEED TO KNOW!

March 17, 2016 2:47 p.m.

I think it's a portal: but to bring something TO Innistrad. Maybe the cryptoliths driving angels mad was not Nahiri's intention at all. And it has to be something Tamiyo discovered that Nahiri is capitulating on, I think the fact that it's in the Drownyard means ships were sinking there for a reason, so the location is as important as what the cryptoliths are doing. We know they alter the mana somehow. I wonder if we'll have to wait for next set to find out...Maybe something living down there she's trying....oh shit what if she's trying to pull the moon closer, as we know Tamiyo said the moon was the key to the plane

Nahiri exploiting what Tamiyo knows, and we can assume Sorin as well, of the Silver Moon

THE ONLY POSSIBLE ANSWER

GoldGhost012 says... #26

Obviously Nahiri is being used by Olba to pull the moon closer to Innistrad so that Sariel can get more powerful. Joke's on them though, Maou will get more powerful as well from all the panic people will get from the moon suddenly being closer.

Eldritch Moon

I'd just like to say that the moon here is huge (it could just be for style), and that castle in the background is being pulled apart. So, as some people have theorized, it could be a Majora's Mask type deal where Nahiri is channeling the mana from Innistrad to try and pull the moon into the planet, obliterating everything.

On the Eldrazi front, with the information we have on Nahiri currently, she doesn't know anything from Zendikar onward has happened. As far as we know, she contained the small Eldrazi leak and discovered the vampires and nulls that were worshiping the titans which infuriated her. She had never seen vampires on Zendikar and assumed Sorin was to blame and, thus, vicariously to blame for the Eldrazi leak as well. Hopefully the next story will focus on Nahiri or Sorin to clarify what they've been doing.

March 18, 2016 11:05 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #28

Oh that makes sense. Since the eldrazi left zendikar in ruins, she might want to use the moon to do the same to Innistrad. Seems like a plausible revenge.

March 18, 2016 11:53 p.m.

TMBRLZ says... #29

I'm pretty sure that castle in the background is supposed to be Markov Manor.

Which Nahiri meticulously ripped to shreds. She also turned the inhabitants into lovely decorative pillars.

March 21, 2016 5:27 p.m.

TMBRLZ, shinobigarth the new spoiled card [Engulf the Shore] seems to imply the moon isn't controlling the tides. Question is, when did Tamiyo say this quote? If is recent than is due to cryptoliths but if from when she was on Innistrad originally, like it's a quote in her journal, it may be irrelevant. However, since the "portal" seen on is over sea where ships always crash (in Drownyard Temple), and the art shows a giant octopus (on Engulf the Shore), I'm wondering if perhaps every plane has a Lorthos, the Tidemaker (RIP) type being, like from Zendikar, that she is trying to awaken. Just a thought, but still leaning towards manipulating moon rather than awakening ancient beast. I hope they don't go all Majora's Mask on us, just seems to unoriginal.

March 21, 2016 10:38 p.m.

shinobigarth says... #32

its probably a giant werewolf octopus.

seriously though, it seems to be what Nahiri is doing with the cryptoliths is made to make the moon into some kind of giant focusing dish that could be causing Avacyn to go nuts. maybe it has something to do with her partying inside the Helvault with Grizzles and his crew? its causing a corruption she got from that time to trigger?

Hey another card like Nephalia Drownyard.

Looking at the flavor text it has some potentially relevant pieces of information:

  1. "Seagraf"s whatever that means.

  2. Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia. Only refernce I could find to Jadar was this card but maybe we'll see more of him/her?

  3. Drownyards, places where bunches of people die at sea.

  4. Checking out this threat, if you ctrl+f and search for "stormkirk" the first refernce to them mentions that the Stormkirk line of vamps mostly resides in Nephalia.

I feel like I need to "investigate" to figure this all out..

Aside from Jadar we have ghoulcaller gissa and of course Liliana. I want to see a coalition of those 3 work together to help stop Nahiri. Meanwhile Jace and Tamiyo will find out that Tibalt has been pulling the strings, or perhaps the Raven Man used Tibalts madness to influence Nahiri and Soren.

Xica says... #34

Well Runo Stromkirk (you know the progenitor of one of the vampire clans) worshipped a sea god... (its hinted on Awoken Horror  Flip) it seems plausible that this God is going to be resurrected, while lovecraftian madness spreads everwhere, including the mind of Avacyn & Nahiri.
