This week’s story was very fast-paced and action-packed, so it focused less on character depth and development and more on the exciting battle.
I do wish that Extus had more depth and development as a character, because he has the potential to be a very interesting character, but he feels too much like a villain from a Saturday morning cartoon.
I hope that Rowan does not die from her attempts to use the snarl’s power, and I also wonder if she and Will shall learn that Liliana is a planeswalker, or if anyone of them shall learn that Lukka is a planeswalker, as well. On that subject, if Lukka does not die in this story, what shall happen to him, next? Will he stop being such a violent anarchist, I hope? He is not evil, but he definitely has a major problem with authority and order, so I hope that he can overcome that tendency.

This is one of the few times where I'll join you in being disappointed at the low level of development for a character (Extus). I think you've hit the nail on the head by describing him as a cartoon villain. There have been hints at a backstory which probably involves him being kicked out of Strixhaven, but we don't have any of it.
Will already suspects Liliana to be a planeswalker based on the way she said something in last week's story. When Liliana got hit with that spell and found herself somewhere else I thought she had been forced to planeswalk. I actually thought that was kind of funny; "nope, you're not here now."
I'm confident that Will and Rowan will make it through. We already did get some reassurance from Will that they have both grown. She has grown in power while he has grown in control. They do well when they have a common goal or a common enemy to work together to fight. I think by the end of this they'll have learned a lot about themselves as individuals and as a team. Looking forward, I could see them as future Gatewatch material. Following that thought I could then see them accidentally tipping off the rest of the Gatewatch to Liliana's continued survival. I think they'll eventually find out, so I think it would be interesting if this was how.
Kasmina knows Lukka is a planeswalker, but that doesn't do anyone else any good because Lukka forced her to flee the plane. I think Lukka is a chaotic-neutral whose good/evil tendencies will align with whoever he is cooperating with. However, his willingness to overpower and enslave the minds of creatures will put him at odds with good-aligned and green characters more often than not. His bond with Mila is one of the more partnership style bonds. If he sticks to those healthy bonds then he can get along with others fine. It will be a huge character development for him if he someday overcomes his weakness and learns to see the big picture, but I won't hold my breath on that one.
