Here is the fifth chapter of the story of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt.

In contrast to the previous two chapters, which I found to be too hectic and rushed, I felt that this story was perfectly paced, and I really liked how it delved into Arlinn's emotional conflict.

Is Tovolar dead, or merely wounded?

Also, I am very glad that the story did not abruptly end on the fifth chapter, as has happened with the stories of the previous sets, so the story has more time to grow and develop in an organic manner.

Why does Olivia want the moonsilver key? Will the proper cycle of day and night ever be restored? I wonder if the story shall wait until the next set is released in November before it continues.

Tovolar is definitely still alive, but Arlinn really took the wind out of his sails. He's physically and emotionally wounded. He thinks she lied to him even though we know that she found a way to say what he wanted to hear without really lying.

I would love for there to be another story coming up next week but my guess is we still only get five stories. This one ends with the cliffhanger to jump off into the Crimson Vow story. I think Liesa, Forgotten Archangel will get revived and bring the day/night balance back with her.

I don't think it would actually happen, but it would be funny if the moonsilver key has another use in something to do with how to lock things away in moonsilver. What if Sorin used it in his process to create the Helvault and he's now destined to be sealed away in a chunk of silver instead of a wall? It's a dumb conspiracy theory, but I'll leave it here for someone to chew on.

From another angle, I got thinking about the Gatewatch's involvement. Arlinn decided she wanted their help, but this isn't really a crisis in their official* mandate to focus on interplanar or planeswalker threats. It's actually kind of like when Dovin Baan showed up on Ravnica to request their services for security at the Inventors Fair. I know the Gatewatch just want to be helpful where they can, but this really is just a domestic dispute among the denizens of the plane of Innistrad.

*Not actually official.

Here is the link to this week's side story, The Dusk Reborn, and it seems that Liesa was revived purely by accident, but I do hope that her revival is a boon for the humans of Innistrad.

I also noticed that the story has not revealed the outcome of Sorin's fight with Sigarda, so I do hope that Sigarda survived, since she is the only remainig angel defending humanity (unless Liesa decides to take on that role).

I would be surprised if Sorin were to actually succeed in killing Sigarda. You're right that we don't quite have a definite answer one way or the other, but she feels like a character who would deserve an on-screen death.

As for Liesa, I got the sense that she is less about fighting against the forces of evil and a bit more into learning about them or talking to them. I think she seeks some semblance of peace with the monsters where possible. That is a form a protecting the humans, but a very different approach than anyone else's. In the past she was the only one on the plane willing to take that approach but now she has found an ally. I could see her gaining some more followers and becoming a new, radical beacon of actionable hope for the people willing to work with her.

I think both Sigarda and Liesa have their own equally important roles and methods for defending the humans of Innistrad.
