Junk decks aren't junk!!! Origins of a name?

So we have the 10 guilds from Ravnica. Then there are the Shards of Alara. Then we have obvious ones like R/U/G and B/U/G and the nickname for R/W/U = American decks. All this is making sense so far, but then I come to Junk... and I just don't get it. Why do we call them Junk decks?
If I'm missing any color combinations I'm probably confused about them as well so please feel free to drop in with an explanation there as well.

Wizards have highlighted that the necra cycle was not representative of the colour combinations name. Ie - necra isn't the proper name.

I think it was that the original deck called Junk was GWB goodstuff, just a whole lot of good junk the deck builder had lying around that worked together really well. He also called it Junk because it sounded similar to Jund. Then other GWB decks with similar goodstuff called themselves Junk, and then the name got stuck to the color combination.

junk is deck builder's name for a pile of efficient threats and answers in B/W/G. the name dates back to around 2000.

jund is the official name of the B/R/G shard, named by wizards when shards of alara released in 2008.
the names are unrelated.

ohhhh Thanks guys! for both the necra and the junk explanation. Going back to an acutal deck someone played makes much more sense to me now.

You also missed Dega, the only name from the Volver cycle to stick (Anavolver , Degavolver , Necravolver , Cetavolver , Rakavolver ).
Dega is now Mardu thanks to Khans.

It's often called junk because they're a color off of jund so they have a close name, and they often end up being just a lot of good stuff, or junk, as opposed to a lot of synergy.
