With the arrival of the Gatewatch catching Tezzeret off-guard, and the poorly executed Confiscation Coup causing tension between the government and it's citizens, it falls on Dovin Bann to quell the embers of Revolution. It starts with containing and capturing the Gatewatch
Now that that's done. Time to read :D

Am I the only one who reads Baan in the voice of C3PO?

Named_Tawyny Baan is more bossy; I don't think Anthony Daniels' voice will qualify

I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading in Dovin's POV. Wonder how stopping Tezzeret will play out.

Well... that fixes my gripes about the last story. Now I'm happy.

Unfortunately Dovin fails to see his own flaw as he was too easy for Tezzeret to manipulate. Dovin senses that something is amiss with Tezzeret but he was easily distracted by the prospect of all the other technology coming under his own influence. Hubris is Dovin's flaw. His ability to detect others' weaknesses gives him a lot of confidence. I think that in dealing with the Gatewatch that will turn into over-confidence as he underestimates the chances of them overcoming their weaknesses. Ajani is still an unknown variable to Dovin and I think Ajani could be a solution to a couple of those weaknesses (Ajani, Mentor of Heroes as leader of the Gatewatch, anyone?). Actually, I think that last bit about Ajani joining the Gatewatch seems a bit far fetched, but it would be pretty cool.

"The enforcer blinked at him, confused, and Dovin took the opportunity to explain. "Watch. When a spear is thrust toward the lifecraft animal's throat, it rears up on its hind legs. Without fail. It then kicks out with its front feet. Here, tell them."
"Go for the throat!" the enforcer yelled, and one of his fellows obeyed.
With a trumpet, the elephant reared up and lashed out with both front feet, sending the obedient enforcer sprawling on the pavement. Dovin sighed."
Go for the Throat reprint hype!!!

Except Go for the Throat doesn't kill artifact creatures.

That's the point; they went for the throat, but it didn't work. "Go for the Back Leg Cable" would though.

Someone make an altered art of Doom Blade where it's cutting a cable.

I think the part that interested me the most was how WotC admitted so many of the complaints about the Gatewatch through Dovin's eye for weaknesses. I don't think they'll die, but I believe now they're going to lose and have to pursue Rashmi's technology across the multiverse before it reaches New Phyrexia.

I definitely do not like how the members of the consulate believe that they can appropriate anything from the citizens, so I will definitely enjoy seeing them be overthrown, but I did also like how the story was told from Dovin Baan's point of view. I wonder in what direction his path shall progress? Will he remain loyal to the consulate, or defect?
Tezzeret's interest in Rashmi's invention was the most interesting part of the story, for me, and I am very eager to see what happens next, with it.

I believe there was a Thopter Foundry reference as well.
