most powerful being in Magic the Gathering

who do you think is the one being that has no equal?

chrishuffman95 says... #2

Obligatory mention of Storm Crow .

And I think it could be argued that many beings could be considered the most powerful being. The Eldrazi titns can destroy whole planes, so they're a contender. However, the Phyrexians have a major influence in the Multiverse.

That being said, Nicol Bolas is rather powerful, as well.

Definitely Storm Crow . Haha. No doubt about it. Other than that I'll go ahead and throw out Nicol Bolas .

I say Nicol Bolas. He's a Planeswalker. He has multiple Planeswalker agents. He intentionally has meddled in the affairs of the Eldrazi and Phyrexia, and no consequences have emerged so far, and it has been quite some time now. He was an Oldwalker and orchestrated a planar catastrophe just to regain that status. Kruphix fears him in addition to Phyrexia and the Eldrazi. The only occasion an equal was found was when Ajani pit him up against a spiritual avatar of himself.

Marit Lage is kind of a big deal, her dreams materialize and she keeps warm by stealing the heat from souls of the ones living in her universe, Plus she has cursed the entire universe while frozen in a giant-ass lake. Also she can kill any eldrazi pretty easily. Gobbling up entire universes is not that impressive if you can't kill the creature living in it.

Do you have a link to Marit Lage's lore?

I'm a fan of Karn personally.

Bolas can destroy a plane of existence, yes, but as Pristine Talisman 's text implies: it takes much more power to create than destroy. That being said, Karn created mirrodin and everything on it.

IMHO the order for power is Karn > Bolas > Sorin.

Sorin, essentially, created a god.

Marit Lage is sort of like Emrakul, the Aeons Torn in that they are not planeswalkers but can move between planes. Same goes for the other two Eldrazi titans.

Pre-mending Nicol Bolas was also pretty powerful. I'd have to give the edge to Nicol Bolas, since he also has a mastermind in conjunction to his raw power, unlike the Eldrazi who just destroy Zendikar upon release.

You guys are forgetting Urza and Commodore Guff. Both could take pre-Mending Nico Bolas if they got into a fight, with Urza being the strongest planeswalker introduced to us in the lore and Commodore Guff being able to rewrite any part of history without leaving his library.

In a future set, the planeswalkers move the phyrexians to zendikar to kill two birds with one stone by making one defeat the other, but let's just say it kinda backfires, so Phyrexian Emrakul takes the cake on this question for me.

Given it some thought, Clone can actually be the most supreme being on the Magic universe just by being able to turn itself into anything/anyone it desires. I don't think there's power greater than that.

btw MagicalHacker where did you get that information?

Pre-mending: Nicol Bolas.

Afterwards... No idea.

I'd also say Urza. But maybe Tetsuo Umezawa should be considered since he got the better of bolas. But I'm no lore expert so please don't kill me.

Most definitely Urza, no questions asked. Also Urza's Saga is one of the best sets ever made.

August 3, 2014 10:55 p.m.

MagicalHacker aaw, Now I'll never get to see Mecha-Emrakul with affinity :c

August 3, 2014 10:59 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #19

Unlike sliver planeswalker or urza coming back to life, it COULD actually happen.

Mecha-emrakul, the Aeons sutured 16

Legendary artifact creature - Eldrazi

Affinity for colorless non land permanents

When you cast ~, you get an extra turn after this turn.

Flying, infect, protection from colored spells

15/15

Flying and infect and 15/15???????????????????????? Seems a little too good to me MagicalHacker XD

August 4, 2014 1:20 p.m.

MagicalHacker says... #21

Don't worry, it costs 16 mana instead of 15.

Cause that's what they did to turn Darksteel Colossus into Blightsteel Colossus smh

August 4, 2014 1:28 p.m.

I think Yawgmoth deserves serious consideration. He's basically the reason Dominaria no longer is safely inhabitable, and his cult is invading and conquering new worlds. He outsmarted Urza multiple times, even if he wasn't up to his level on raw power.

August 4, 2014 7:13 p.m.

MagicalHacker that would mean 1 hit KO unless Melira, Sylvok Outcast can kick some serious Emrakul ass.

MagicalHacker says... #24

Lol it was an elaborate joke

August 5, 2014 12:21 a.m.

lothshteth says... #25

Yawgmoth's power was because of Phyrexian advancement over millennia, I mean come on he was a darn healer. The Eldrazi are powerful, but they are slow and they just seem like overgrown goats anyway. If anyone has read the books you would know it definitely isn't Urza, he gets messed up a whole lot by inferior characters.

It would have to be Nicol Bolas. Last of the elder dragons = no equal. Longest lived walker = no equal. He did lose to Ajani, but only because Ajani conjured an actual equal of Bolas to defeat him. Sad to say cause I'm not a fan of his but I think the dragon wins.

August 5, 2014 3:10 a.m.

asasinater13 says... #26

Ajani being able to use his magic to create copies of whatever opponent he's against seems like it makes him pretty powerful, any chance he's a contender for "most powerful"? (I'm just a big fan of his, I don't really know the old lore well enough to contribute much)

August 5, 2014 3:17 a.m.

lothshteth says... #27

Without a doubt. Not many can claim to have defeated Bolas. But the question was who doesn't have an equal. You could say Jace and Sorin are on par with Ajani. It's hard to say who's on par with Bolas.
