In which we see The Scorpion God's recursion really do its thing. The three remaining gods have awoken. Neither mortal nor immortal is safe.

Yikes. Super intense. Not only did I enjoy the Eygptian cosmology with its parallels to other Ancient Near Eastern texts, but just in terms of magic this story was harrowing.

spoilers to follow

RIP Rhonas. I hope his sacrifice alerts the other gods to Bolas's lies. I know Bontu is probly dead too, and maybe Oketra, based on spoiled cards, but I feel a need for at least Hazoret to survive. That way, I feel there will be real tension and suspense for when we revisit Amonkhet, and also so it's not a 180 degree change for Wizards as far as which faction wins unrealistic victories. Like, I'm okay if the bad guys win one (in fact it's more satisfying), but I don't follow Magic story so that I can experience New Phyrexia lore moments. If I wanted dark and brooding with no hope at all, I'd watch BvS. And that's not to mention that it'll be much less satisfying to revisit Amonkhet if it's another enemy-occupied plane like Zendikar or Mirrodin.

So, in summary: I'm waiting with bated breath to see if the 'watch and the gods can protect their people, despite their emotional and real losses before they've even glimpsed Bolas!

I think what will happen is that the surviving Gods will turn to the Gatewatch and say "save them" (the people); they do, and defeat the false gods as well.

THIS, will grab the attention of Bolas and it is this when he comes in and promptly kicks the Gatewatch's ass

I'm pretty sure all the gods are going to die unfortunately (either in blazes of glory like Rhonas or trying to protect people). However I feel like the plane isn't going to somehow survive, either as a wicked Bolas controlled land of super-zombies or a bastion for the new Gatewatch (i.e. whatever the Gatewatch turns into after the events of this story, since we know it's going to change big time).

The creation story at the beginning of this entry was excellent, paralleling that from the book of Genesis while also being sufficiently distinct to not be a direct copy.

Why do the other three gods not have names? Is that to show that they have become corrupted by Bolas and lost their individual identities? That would also explain why they are so much more powerful than the other five.

I hope that the remaining four gods realize the truth about Bolas, as well, but I am not certain if they shall do so in time to make a difference. It definitely seems as if block shall not have a happy ending, which has not happened since Scars of Mirrodin, so it would be a welcome change of pace for me.

The story never did reveal exactly how Razketh was connected to Bolas, what he was doing until the gate opened, and why his role was necessary; does anyone else lament that?

DemonDragonJ From memory, I believe that the demons were associates of Bolas which he introduced to Liliana, from her retcon origin story. He had to use his spell to trigger the rest of Bolas' Hours. As for what he was doing until then, presumably he was just enjoying himself in the warm sun of the necropolis.
