Mtg Art References
Lore forum

Has anyone else noticed that on the art of Thespian's Stage the two actors depicted fighting supposed to be Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran and Szadek, Lord of Secrets . So I did a search and sure enough a Daily MTG article on Wizards.com was talking about it. It might be more common knowledge than I thought, but none the less still cool.
Are there any other cards with good references or throwbacks to other older cards? It doesn't have to be entirely just based on the cards functions but art, lore, flavor text ect. The Time Spiral Block has some obvious ones for sure, basically the whole point of the block. Still are there any good cross block references out there?

Does the mountain on Spinerock Knoll actually being a dragon count?

Droxium, you mean Knollspine Dragon being the Knoll in Spinerock Knoll .

Oh man. That is great! I guess I never looked at Remand that closely.
For other stuff, I guess Zoltan Boros being a Magic artist is a bit of an easter egg. (Yes, he did do Boros Charm , among others.)
Saffi Eriksdotter is a reference to Lhurgoyf , as is "Ach! Hans, Run!" , though both of those might not count (Un-set and Timespiral)
Illness in the Ranks is Coursers' Accord .
Protean Hulk and Wreak Havoc have flavor text referencing the flavor text of Borborygmos .

Shivan Dragon and Grave Betrayal .
Also, it isn't from a different block, but Blood Artist is painting Curse of Oblivion
March 29, 2014 8:16 p.m.
Lol i never actually noticed the Grave Betrayal one. Abrupt Decay has Nivix Cyclops on it. In the background of Krenko, Mob Boss you can see the two goblins in Krenko's Command . Blast of Genius has ral in the front (obviously), but who noticed Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius in the background? Breaking / Entering has Duskmantle Guildmage or Dimir Guildmage (not sure which one) and Wayfaring Temple . Also, Homing Lightning has ral on it.

Ghostfire and Eye of Ugin had some great foreshadowing.
I think Eye of Ugin may be in Eldrazi Monument 's art. I could be mistaken.

I'd like to point out that in almost EVERY creature card that spawns a token either as an ETB effect or otherwise it shows the token it creates on the card somewhere in the background. Some examples of this :
Riftmarked Knight - Behind him in the top left.
Penumbra Bobcat / Penumbra Kavu / Penumbra Spider / Penumbra Wurm - simply look for the shadows!
Abhorrent Overlord - little harpies flying around it.
Archdemon of Unx : claw coming from the ground.
Benalish Commander shadow of an army in the background.
So yeah pretty much any token spawner shows the token it spawns somewhere in the artwork

In Lost in the Woods , they're so lost they don't realise they're upside-down!

Wild Pair shows Verdeloth the Ancient and Krosan Tusker coming out of portals, which is a pair of creatures that could summon each other with Wild Pair .

whoptyfrigindo now that you mentioned that you can also see the shadow of the killer Clear a Path which is Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

The Phil Foglio art for Presence of the Master is ACTUALLY just a picture of Albert Einstein. Does that count?

NotSoLuckyLydia- I would say any Easter Egg counts or anything that is fun in the way cards relate to each other.
Garruk's Horde has Garruk running along the left hand side of the heard.
The Koth vs Venser duel deck version of Path to Exile is a Plated Geopede being zapped.
Prey's Vengeance and Irresistible Prey is one of my favorites.

Actually all the Zeniths have their respective artifact land in the art:
White Sun's Zenith
and Ancient Den
Blue Sun's Zenith
and Seat of the Synod
Black Sun's Zenith
and Vault of Whispers
Red Sun's Zenith
and Great Furnace
and
Green Sun's Zenith
and Tree of Tales
, as aeonstoremyliver said.

I noticed yesterday that the 1/1 white soldier token from RTR is pictured on Precinct Captain 's card, and that's probably him in the background of her art.
August 1, 2014 9:32 a.m.
My favorite one would have to be Graveborn's Animate Dead . It features Sun Titan !
August 4, 2014 2:24 a.m.
Also,
Justice , Surge of Strength , and Dystopia have the same guy featured on each art. Looks like he's had a hard time.

I think the new duel deck Remand art with Deathrite Shaman being banished is pretty funny.
